So here is an animated gif I made.

It is made up of 48 images and I did it one image at a time. You can see the movement isn't very smooth. I did it 50 pixels at a time. move it 50 pixels save as a new image, move it 50 pixels save as a new image and so on. It took me about 45 minutes. I wanna do the same thing but I want perfect movement. Meaning 1 pixel at a time but I don't want to do it manually like this one. Any ideas how I could make the process less tedious? btw this is a scaled down version the original size was 2400x1200 and the image was to big for pimpandhost. Now if you do the math and I did it the same way, moving it one pixel saving it, moving it another pixel and saving it and so on there would be 2400 images which is okay I don't mind I just don't want to do it manually one image at a time like I did this one. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks.

It's been a while since I experimented with gifs and cannot help you with programs. But I'd say the original pic is much too large to work with? The endresult should get enormously large, shouldn't it? If you scale it down before you work with it/them, it'll be less tidious and less work.

For seeing the pics moving in original size, there are slideshow-programs, though a perfectly smooth movement is always an issue. :D

Well I planned to do two one in original size for my collection and then one scaled down for sharing around.

Yes, I thought so. :D

But how huge would a gif of 2400 single pics of 2400x1200 get? A gigabyte? :D

I may be wrong, but wouldn't it be a smoother movement, if you took more pixels for the movement instead of less? E.g. if you use the width of the picture and repeat the single picture more often instead? So the gif would be more like a movie ... Or did I misunderstood the problem? :worried:

Btw. I like the gif already. ;)

Basically what I did is I offset the one image by 50 pixels then saved it as a new image then offset it by another 50 pixels and saved it as another image and so on. Giving me 48 images. To get a smoother gif what I would need to do is to move it one pixel and save it then move it another pixel then save it therefore having 2400 images. The problem is that gets really tedious and I was wondering if there was a faster way of doing it.

Maybe it would be easier to create the animation as a movie file using a video editing app, and then convert the finished video to a GIF afterwards?

You could be right but the problem is I don't know how to do it as a video ether. If anyone does let me know.

Thank you for pointing this out. I misunderstood it a bit. :)

But you could try a freeware called "Picture2avi" or another one called "Picture2Gif". You can take some pictures, choose effects and save it as an avi-file. After that you can save the small movie as a gif. I think the freeware gives the opportunity to do this. If not (I didn't use it for myself yet), there is another software (mentioned above) at the following site, which is capable of doing this.

You can find the software, if you follow the link:

I'm pretty sure you should be able to do some nice effects with iMovie, and if your brother happened to have FinalCutPro then I know for a fact you could because you can use keyframes to set up a smooth pan across a still image - I do that all the time when I'm editing videos.

I would have suggested Premier Pro however it seems too tedious. Oh well, this is a windows OS suggestion.
