Hey Guys:

I wanted to know if anyone can give me some suggestions or advice in regard to how to convert a MP3 file to a WAV file. I created a Power Point holiday presentation and I wanted to insert a song which is in the MP3 format into my presentation. I thank you in advance for your assistance...Thanks...JW :thumbs up:

there really isn't much point converting mp3 to wav ...

mp3 is a compressed format ... and much of the bottom end and top end is completely lost .... converting back to an uncompressed format (aiff or wav) will not improve sound quality at all (if anything the file will sound worse .. extra hiss on big systems etc)

it can however be done very easily ...

let me know which platform you are using (windoze, osx, linux) and i can point you towards several free options to perform the task with.

drop me a pm :D

@Zortek: Sometimes it's necessary to convert an audio file into another format, when a program is not able to read the original format. Don't know if Power Point can only accept wav, never really used that program. But it's Microsoft, I believe it right away that it can't process MP3. :D

I use a program Free MP3 Wma converter for conversions like that. It is flawful though. A big bunch of wav files I once converted to flac all had a "bang"-noise at the end. But MP3 to WAV should work.

ppoint can definitely use mp3 ... and audio processing is an aspect of my profession ...

i most certainly would not use wma for any purpose at all ... except to waste my time :)

the problem appears to be the actual file itself, not the format, as a different mp3 has worked,

As said: I don't know that program, and yes, it would be surprising even for Microsoft if they'd didn't support the standard audio format.
Oh and I haven't disagreed to anything you said. :)

:D Never used wma too and I suggested the program as a quick solution. I use single flacs for my cds and use foobar for conversion. ... Yes, there was a time I used mp3 too and it was real fun to read out my cds again, this time properly. :D
