I see feminism as a sophisticated academic discipline and important political movement. Perhaps some feminists are too vocal or extreme, but nonetheless it is important to weigh every viewpoint before forming any kind of generalised impression or preconception in relation to an entire (global) community of feminists. In any event very few feminists would define themselves as *just* feminists; in other words they resist restrictive definitions or labels. There is a great deal of overlap between various movements that seek equality, for example when a leading thinker contributes, variously, to 'gender theory', 'feminism', 'queer theory' and so on. There isn't some insidious feminist conspiracy to put all men on a leash (..or is there? :p ). In actual fact the human world is made up of a great variety of thinkers who must struggle with many difficult fields of enquiry and complex, often over-lapping and inter-related issues, concerns and movements. :)

Well, to read some of the more assertive feminist manifestos and commentary, that is exactly what some of them desire. I can say that in clothing, fashion trends for young males (for a time) were de-masculinizing and somewhat androgynous. There is a definite effect upon masculinity as a result of feminism - much of it positive but not all.

Personally, I'm very interested in men's issues, in addressing the inequality and harsh, punitive gender roles that male people have historically been shoved into by both sexes, which also continues into this day and is aided by feminist theory. Further, I'm only interested in playing with people who reciprocate; asking a group to use only the most politically aware terms and phrases while you use the word "men" as your own four letter word and spread hateful stereotypes with it doesn't work for me.

I have no supporting evidence for this, but I would guess that a gay man is more likely to be - not exactly a feminist, but someone who believes in equal rights and responsibilities for both sexes. That's because, firstly, most of us know how it feels to experience some form of discrimination, and therefore object to any kind of discrimination; secondly, gay men's interaction with women in the work environment or at a social level is not complicated by the sexual thing.

No right should be called "gay rights" or "women equality" or "black power" if we want every citizens to be treated equally.
Well...
When I say "gay rights" I mean it as shorthand for "rights that gay people should have, that most other people already have." I certainly don't want gay domination, any more than I want heterosexual domination. Likewise for men/women, black/white etc.
