AT&T Starts Six-Strikes Anti-Piracy Plan Next Month Block Websites

A set of leaked internal AT&T training documents obtained by TorrentFreak reveal that the Internet provider will start sending out anti-piracy warning notices to its subscribers on November 28. Customers whose accounts are repeatedly flagged for alleged copyright infringements will have their access to frequently visited websites blocked, until they complete an online copyright course. It’s expected that most other participating ISPs will start their versions of the anti-piracy plan on the same date.

Well, that totally sucks. How am I going to get this year's Christmas theme porn? If I can't have my porn addiction, I'm going back to drinking.

I'll hope for some some tips and tricks from you sexy smart gay heaven techieboys before the crackdown.

Yeah I suggest to just use a VPN or proxy to bypass these guys.

But the thing is, using these services would slow down your surfing/downloading experience.

Here's an example:

(USA) 100ms (Europe) 100ms (USA)
You ------> Proxy --------> Site

A typical time rate for a US customer to access a Europe site would be around 100ms and vice versa. So if you're going to access like a site that's just near your house, you'd have to go through a Europe server first and then back - that would take time and may produce latency in the connection.

So my best advice is to pick a VPN/proxy service that's near you, make some test, I think some offer a trial period and judge if the latency would be acceptable for you.

So, they slap limiters on the amount of GB you can use each month and if you go over and you have to pay more.

And, now, they're taking away our so-called "freedom" in favor of forcing their own opinion about what's considered right and wrong, which honestly, is about as sickening as the entire SOPA/PIPA fiasco.

Honestly, how in the hell can their internet service still be as popular as what it is?

Their only goal is to make you afraid of them, or what they might do. Drop att as a provider and incourage your family and friends to do the same. Jerk the money out from under their asses and they will shut the F___k up.

I agree AT&T sucks balls but they aren't the only one. Other ISPs are set to follow because of their deals with MPAA and RIAA to censor the net for USA consumers.

The MPAA and RIAA, helped by five major Internet providers in the United States, will start to warn and punish copyright infringers later this year.

The parties launched the Center for Copyright Information (CCI) and agreed on a system through which copyright infringers are warned that their behavior is unacceptable. After five or six warnings ISPs may then take a variety of repressive measures.

Thanks for the updates, Stoic.
Please let us know how this rolls out, boys. And what you use to get around it.

I have a second tier ISP (RCN). I don't think they are in this, at least not yet. I stayed with RCN because I assumed they really need their customers. I think the big ISPs are willing to take the hit.

Land of the free? Sad that they can do as they like and not have to answer to anyone.

Undoubtedly, the evolution of the network has created serious problems in some gill of economic power.

What is surprising that service providers give in to these demands.

But it could be a bad deal for these gentlemen.

They have pushed back the start date for this. It's now sometime early next year. Final testing was interrupted by hurricane Sandy.

So this is good news for 2012 Christmas porn! Christmas balls, sticky candy canes, bearish Santa cumming down your chimney.
Ho Ho Ho!!!

This is finally starting for the major American isps. Second tier isps, not yet.

At this time it only looks at peer to peer. It does not target file lockers.

For now, this is probably only going to affect dumb people who don't understand how peer to peer works and just how intrinsically dangerous it is, but, they will not stop there.

This sets a dangerous precedent - we have corporations acting as judges in a 'court' where you are guilty until proven innocent. To me it's sign that America is a very sick democracy indeed - and they while everyone honours the constitution in word, no one seems to expect it to be honoured in deeds.

We had for many years a COLD WAR. Every method to win was allowed. Maybe we should talk about a HOT WAR this time.

Above all, America is corporate.
This was a compromise between corporate movie studios on one side, and the Googles on the other. All other considerations were secondary.

Now I have BtGuard. What a nightmare! Works with some trackers and not with others. Some torrent sites accept proxies, others ban them. I go to public wifis to download the stuff that might get me in trouble. But that only means that they'll start restricting the wifis as the notices go out. Land of the Free is going underground!

Thanks for the update, cammikun.
We'll all need to know what can work in this game of cat and mouse.
