Is there any way to turn off the "anime" avatar that appears above one's custom avatar in postings? I know there is a setting to turn off all avatars, but I just want to turn off the default ones. Any ideas?

May I suggest then that they be turned off globally? They really don't serve any purpose that can't be done with just the title "Fan", "Addict", etc. The problem is that they overwhelm the smaller personal avatar - which is what actually visually identifies an individual.

I agree - they really serve no purpose and are kinda annoying. Moderators, is there any way to turn them off but keep the personalized avatar?

We've never had any other complaints in all the time we've had them. If there were enough we'd look into it.

I know from other forums, people like to progress from one to another. They're all a uniform size so if you make your personal avatar similar it doesn't overshadow it

If you don't like the images and use Firefox, you can install Adblock plus and create a filter for the images. This one works for me:
