Beefcake - Vintage Hollywood

Those of you early "sword and sandal" film buffs might know these guys. Richard Harrison and Guy Madison. They also did spaghetti westerns. Photograped nude or near nude by Bob Mizer in the 50s and 60s to supplement their meager film income. The still from one of the Roman gladiator flicks has Richard Harrison on the right, and he is the beautiful dude in the jeans and boots. But the B&W physique shots: are they Harrison or Guy Madison (shown in the military shirt and tie)?

I have loved Harrison since I was a kid, going to the movies every Saturday. Those were the days (and damn, the men in those pictures! Hot!)

What a nostalgia trip!! I am sure that the third pic is Bob Delmonteque (and the second pic as well, but I'm not positive about the second). Yes Richard Harrison was a big turn on for me, too. I don't think Guy Madison did any nude shoots. That 50's upswept hair does make the fourth guy look like Bob Delmonteque but I don't think it is.

Mystery apparently solved!

THANK YOU Howard for clearing up some of this mystery. I mean, I have been LOYALY in love with Richard Harrison since I was 14! I would have made a great life partner for him! Although there are reports that he "dabbled," he did get married and had several kids. Good looking people should reproduce, but couldn't he spare some juice for me? And those 50s guys were all so damned HOT with that swept hairstyle the era's trademark.

Anyway, it is indeed Bob Delmonteque holding the tree branch, thank you. The guy flexing in his jeans could be him or Harrison. The guy seated with boots on is definitely Harrison. The guy with his legs spread is ??? Harrison has a telltale muscle bulge on his inner right shin muscle just below the knee which this photo is too dim to see.

Here are more of Bob who I would not have thought of without your help! Despite the fact that there are sessions with him and Harrison together, I just did not see the forest for the trees, or other beautiful growths

I believe you are right Howard that Guy Madison did no nude shots (darn it). Like so many guys then, he was raised with a great deal of religion and was always trying to balance his natural urges with the restrictions imposed by his upbringing.

Harrison DID do nudes. I have a short film clip of him (naked from behind only, but such a nice behind) and here are two verified shots of him. A perfect, beautiful and thoroughly edible lightly furred butt, and a peek at the goods in profile.

Finally got a good copy of his film Gunfight at Red Sands in a pristine Italian widescreen print. The first spaghetti western with music by Morricone! Harrison recommended Eastwood to Leone for A Fistful of Dollars (famous music by Morricone) and started a whole trend in Italian and European cinema! Eastwood was great in those pictures. But oh how I love Richard Harrison! (Umm, I think I have already mentioned that in this thread!)

Thanks for the two pics of Harrison--I'd seen the backside shot but never a frontal.
The second guy in your original post is still bugging me. Looks like a shot from those French Riviera "little mags" which were about the first frontal nudes that I saw in the 50's. Name like Male Nudist Review or something along those lines.
I think the photographer was John Barrington (Paignton) but I can't remember and the sites that used to feature those vintage mags are eluding my Google. Maybe Robert Duranton? I don't think guy #4 looks anything like Harrison or Delmonteque, more like David Zuborg (yuck), but it's not him either

Once again, you have it Howard. #4 dude is the yuck-worthy Zuborg and I never caught it, despite the fact the pic is otherwise named. But over the years so much of the old physique studio work has been abused, when a lot of it was so valuable to those of us growing up in the 50s and 60s with nothing but Muscleboy, Junior and Male Nudist review (yes, I remember that mag!) to pore over in our secret admiration for the truly beautiful sex (as Schopenhauer argued----and as evident in all of Nature's creatures, the most beautiful birds, the lion with the mane, the buck deer with the huge antlers, etc etc etc all MALE!!!!). There was a major news dealer downtown where I live that carried those mags and I would hurry through the checkout with them and when I got home, hide them under my mattress! I think I still have a few preserved!

DVD Screenshot of Gunfight at Red Sands

FYI: The first Spaghetti western in a fine print, made by Harrison with music by Ennio Moricone under the pseudonym Dan Savio is available at last. Previous cheap DVDs were pan-and-scan atrocious prints. Sinister Cinema online has a lot of pictures made by 50s and 60s beefcake stars, some of the pictures damned good! Sword and Sandal, Spy flicks and westerns. Love them all!
