Being a Gay: Boon or Bane? Nurture VS. Nature!

That's too much to ask... it's more on feelings, we can't do something about it... there comes the "Nurture VS Nature..", which is which?

still not quite sure about nature vs nurture thing because it's quite sensitive issue and no one has really been able to prove that one is right and the other is wrong...

but....

in my case, as far as I can remember (and subsequently formed my judgement), I think I'm nurtured

I'd go with nature, but I don't really care much. You might as well ask what causes people to be left-handed, or for that matter what causes them to be heterosexual.

Gay is what I am and what I'm supposed to be. Period.

Thank you jeraldjamescapao for an interesting question. The cause is probably a combination of nature and nurture. I think there is a substantial nature component. It is estimated that 10% of the population is gay. I do not think that 10% of the population would choose the life. There is a theory that the cause is a "problem" with an unindentified human pheromone receptor.
But then again, who knows?

I believe that it is nature. Gay is who I am and always have been.

Nature for sure. It is shown throughout nature. Even in todays more tolerent society you are still stigmatized for being Gay, so I can't see how it would be a choice.

Nurture ? I'm not sure. Bigotry is definitely down to nuture and most surely learnt.

Boon or Bane ? I'm happy with who I am but life would be easier if I were not gay.

Roll on the day when society and religion don't teach or tolerate hate in any form.

I don't believe that the majority of people choose their sexual orientation whether it's gay. straight or bi. I think what we ultimately do is accept with what nature has gifted us. Therefore, I believe a gay sexual orientation is definitely nature. Where nuture comes to play is in how we deal with our sexuality.

I was in my early 30s when I came out. It took me that long to realize that being gay is not something I chose, but something I am. It's amazing how freeing stepping from the dark into the light can be. When I stepped out of the closet I vowed never to go back in. I did not choose to be gay, but I did choose to accept and celebrate the fact that I am. I have never regretted my decision to live my life as an openly gay man and if my being gay bothers anyone, well that's their problem, not mine.

I believe it is nature: some biological reason for the same gender attraction - maybe population control. The science of attraction between genders is there for sex, which is there for producing offspring, continuation of the species.... blah blah blah. Anyway, let's face it, our attraction to the same gender does really nothing to continue the species. So, I'm thinking that nature had a choice between making us attracted to the same gender or killing our desire for sex - like that would be possible lol.
