Can anybody tell me the difference between Blu-ray and Hd.I can't see any myself.Upscaled TV pictures to 1080 seem the equal of HD as well.Any ideas guys?
BluRay is HD, with a video resolution of 1920x1080p (p=progressive, which means there are 1080 lines in every frame). Most HD television broadcasts are 1920x1080i (i=interlaced, so there are actually 540 lines per field, 2 fields per frame, with the odd-lined field sent then the even-lined field.)
Progressive requires a higher bitrate, which is why the broadcast channels, where bandwidth is at a premium, choose interlaced instead. Sports or fast-motion content tends to look better as progressive. All television as we know it has been interlaced since it first came out as a commercial product.
In the television world, anything with a vertical resolution less than 720 is considered Standard Definition (SD), with 525 or 625 lines being typical.
Upscaled content means the decoder/player is stretching the source material to 1920x1080 resolution, which often shows artifacts. It's more noticeable if you sit close to the screen. Also, some upscaler chips are much better than others, this will depend on which your player or television has.
I usually avoid true HD (1920x1080 or 1280x720) dowloads because the resulting file sizes are so much larger. The very-high resolution files also require more processing power to decode than lower resolution files.
