Since gayheaven is so complete, do you think it can be a gay social network like facebook?

Gay social networks are generally awful from what I've seen. It would just end up being a thinly veiled hook-up site in the end and end up just like all the other places on the net.

I bloody well hope this place is NEVER like FaceBook in any way shape or form. This place respects our privacy and doesn't sell us or our privacy for profit.

No, it is best that it doesn't. There doesn't always need to be a gay version of something when the original is fine. (i.e. The US version on the UK's "the office"... Gay and not in a good way). Lol.

I agree with you mostly - exept for that fact that in this case the original is not 'fine' but very poor.

The two things are opposite.

Free porn sharing needs privacy, for obvious legal reasons.

Facebook style social networks are about openness and tranparency. People are routinely hurting themselves by sharing what they should not.

And we have members from countries where being outed might have terrible consequences. We need to protect them as best we can.

I think GayHeaven does a great job of balancing these two opposites. I have faith that we will continue.

Oh my! Would it be ever the biggest mistake GH would do... first as a web developer and designer... I know that GH is using a totally different type of platform, although there is few functions that are similar to Facebook, GH isn't built to be a Facebook. Although I am openly married to my long time boyfriend, I still don't want every Jack Joe and John being able to search my name and find out about my family, son, daughter, husband and so on and so forth. FB is way too transparent, has way too many wannabee wanting their 15 minutes of fame by telling us all what color their shit was yesterday. I have them all, FB, YouTube, MySpace, Twitter, and GH but only GH has me log in often, only GH had me writing over a 1000 replies, I hate all the others and Facebook is my number one in the rank of hatred for social Network, Twitter come second and YouTube??? Well I don't hate YouTube since there's a very good community of educational Youtuber, it is really up to me to skims across the channels, but FB, NEVER... I only keep it active for family matter, otherwise it would have been gone so darn fast from the very day I've started receiving friend request from fucking dumb assholes that I hated in high school which somehow believed that the virtual Jake doesn't have the same behavior or attitude than the actual Jake.

So GH a Gay Facebook? Hell No... Status QUO - stay with what works!

I was one of the first to sign up for FB. But I was also one of the first to run away.
Despite this, I have many, many true friends, even in GayHaven.
Friendship is sacred, you can not barter on a social forum.

Facebook is pure evil and I hate it with a passion.

Those type of comments always make me laugh :p You use it how you want to use it.

Those who advertise every aspect of their lives on it , well that wouldn't be any different on any website.

What's annoying about it is the incredible banal and trivial crap that some post, and I'm not talking kids, some are grandparent age!

But you take from anything what you want and leave the rest. If it's not your thing you just don't touch it at all, same as if you hate certain hamburgers ;) Many love 'em, many don't.

It's not that simple. I've been dipping my toes in and out of Facebook over the last several years. I've had situations where people I haven't seen for over 10yrs have tried to track me down. Also a couple of years ago I found Facebook pretty much broadcasting my browser history to my wall and suggesting to my friends products that may be of interest to ME. I have never had and positive experiences with that site and all my real friends I either call email or see. Facebook is great for kids wanting show off how popular they are. For me I value my privacy and Facebook represents all I detest with online activity.

How can Facebook broadcast your browser history ?

Tell them as little as possible, I use it as a tool, never for anything personal. It's unlikely anyone who doesn't know me could ever find my page.

I have no idea. This was in the early days of Facebook. I remember browsing for stuff and then logged into Facebook to find it had placed ads directly related to what I was browsing and also some option to post details of this item 'for my friends to see'. I found it very creepy and invasive. I know they've tightened up the privacy rules in the last few years but I still don't trust the site. It's just one huge data mining company for advertisers. I prize my privacy so facebook is the last place I'd wanna hang out.

Google does the same, it reads your cookies ;)

I couldn't care less, I'm too boring to be interesting to anyone other than advertisers :))

Althought I also had that imagination I think it has no sense cos users are here from all around the world. So it's probably impossible to date someone who lives thousands kms from you.
