I just read an article on Vox.com that said shaving pubes can increase the risk of STD transmission. Does anyone else know anything about this?

I tried to anonymize and include the link, but it wouldn't go through. The article is by Julia Belluz and the keyword is "manscaping."

Personally, I never liked porn's promotion of pube topiaries, or whatever they are. I have much fonder mems of the days when all the dudes in the shower room had fantastically hairy crotches. That, to me, was super HOT!

I don't know if there will be a risk of STD transmission by shaving your pubes. I'm not a doctor - but I wouldn't know why.

Right. That's exactly what's happening. Studies are showing that, because of tiny nicks or larger cuts, shaved guys are getting more STDs. Shaving simply gives STDs more entryways into the body. While we were evolving to be less hairy, perhaps natural selection preserved our crotch hairiness for that very reason---i.e., as a safeguard against abrasions from bumping uglies. Perhaps individuals with less crotch hair got more infections and the like from sexual activity.

I never said anything about beards, generally hairy bods, or circision. I hate those too. So I'm with you there. And I am most certainly against religious fanaticism of every stripe.

Manscaping is mostly a matter of fashion, like hairstyles. Each generation wants to be different than the former generation so they can show off what amazing "non-conformists" they are. Everybody knows the game. About 10 to 20 years from now, manscaping will be considered passé. However, if manscapers become aware that they're increasing their chances of acquiring STDs because of all the nicks and cuts, the practice might become passé sooner rather than later.

The article I referred to recommended avoiding nicks by using electric shavers rather than razors. I love smoothness too, but not around the crotch. I also prefer naturally hairy ass cracks.
