Catholic & Protestant are both versions of Christianity. There are many versions, Evangelist, Baptist, Methodist, etc

It's one of the things I never understand, they both have the same beliefs yet there can be so much tension between them, it's almost tribal. The head of the Catholic Church is the Pope. They both have slightly different interpretations of the Bible, like all religions.

I won't go on, it's best to look the information up on the net. I'm just glad I'm a non-believer in any of this stuff :p

It then gets even more confusing as you can then have different versions of catholism and protestants.
For example I was babtised as a "church of scotland" which is protestants.
There's the roman catholic (which is the pope)
Tell her to look into the the change of religion in ye olde british times amongst the royal family. I think it was George the V basically invented protestitants so he could be devorced.
And protistetants where even outlawed at some points and vice versa.

back then the roman catholic church be came corrupt and need more money so they started sell piece of papers that said their sins will forgiven for a year. they made it to the point were they have to buy one every year. but some did not believe that hence for the protestant reformation. first their was martin Luther who created Lutheranism church which believe faith is the only thing you need to go to heaven. then the Catholics invented to Inquisition. then their were the Anabaptist who were communal and pacifist they believe every one was born with a litte of gods light in them. then their was john Calvin who was a priest in the roman catholic church he believe that it should be a set of rules laid down on how church should be. which gave rise to Calvinism he believe in predestination. their were much more, but all of those are consider protestant

My view has always been that religion is politics! The more you explore about it (and the more you are able to stand back from it) makes you realise that. The Bible has been re-written and re-interpretted so many times to suit the politics of the day.

It's all a way of keeping people under some sort of control. Mankind has always had some sort of religion to create the rules of their society. It plays on peoples fears that they might just be all alone in the universe and they will be cast into the void with nothingness!

Well, that's a stong possibility , but I believe all energy has to go somewhere, and we all go back into the stuff of the universe. Nothing disappears, and that's definitely not a religeous viewpoint, it's not even wishful thinking, it's just a possible outcome.

If death is the very end then we aren't going to care anyway, but to put fear into people if they don't behave in certain ways is to me a very primitive and ridiculous notion!

ok...I been drinking...lol..what a loaded question....hmmmm

Catholic leaders/priest ....don't get married, have sex with young boys, deny sexual relations happen, and payoff the sex partners after sex

Protestant leaders/pastors....get married, have sex with male prostitutes, attack sexual relations when they happen, and payoff themselves.

xman..is right on target...it's all about political control..and i believe it was Henry VIII who told the pope to leave England alone and to just go f*** his choir bois

This is why I tend to avoid religious topics. Intensepump's comment is actually mild compared to what I think about it....

My mother is Methodist, my father Lutheran, My step-father Baptist and I went to Catholic school. The one thing I found they all have in common is the belief that if you don't believe what they teach, you go to hell...

But to make it simple, the difference is much like the difference between Sunni and Shiite Muslims, Protestants go by their own interpretation of the Bible and Catholics by the word of the clergy...

Notice the root word of Protestant- they were to Protest what the Catholic teachings were. Both are annoying in my opinion! Scandals are in all that they encompass so nothing innocent with them anymore.

Shiite n Sunni are very2 different.
the only similarity we have is ALLAH.
Praying and rituals are very different.
