What was some of your favorite child hood toys? As a kid I always remember playing with K'nex. Always loved them.

As a young child (2 to 4 years old) I loved to play with empty boxes. Stacking them, climbing inside the big ones and crushing the small ones. I also loved the lawn sprinkler in the summer time, lol. Then I loved my cowboy outfit complete with six-shooters (pop-guns naturally), tricycle and skates. I got my first bike when I was 10. My first skateboard at 13. I bought my first car when I was 16. I worked for enough money (3 years of summer jobs to earn $200) to buy a 1960 VW Beetle (Black) with the little opera window in the back. It was my favorite of all toys, lol.

Tonka dump truck (Wish I still had it), Hot Wheels, Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, Etch A Sketch. This was way way back before Pong was even invented. Dinosaurs still ruled the planet.

Oh definitely Lego. I miss it :(
It is all still piled in boxes in my parents attic.

Used to have all the lights and motors as well which I loved. Always used to build houses!

Legos, hot wheels, and I had a rather large collection of first edition Star Wars toys...

Unfortunately, due to a combination of adolescence and an aunt who was vice-president of one of the nations largest fireworks importers, all those now very valuable Star Wars collectables met an untimely end at the hands of a teenage me with an unlimited supply of M-80's...

If I had only known that those things could have payed off my mortgage...

I loved smurfs and other play figures. They had starships and were going out boldy where no smurfs and other play figures have gone before.

Cowboys and injuns - and I was always, always, always on the side of the injuns. They were so handsome, fashinating and sexy, and almost Rudy in the Nudy... Cowboys? That was for others. I thought they were ugly and boring; I mean ugly old chums like John Wayne...not at all my cup of tea...

All the gears you needed to play cowboy & injuns (or just injuns) - all the fake weapons, the revolvers and guns, the tomahawks, the knifes, all the different kinds of feathers and the fancy warpainting in the face. I was Sitting Bull (or a bit more authentic - Tatanka Iotake of the Hunkpapa Lakotas), Crazy Horse, Red Cloud, Tecumsheh, Pontiac...And of course Geronimo...

And other than that? I read books about injuns - every fuckin' book about injuns I could get hold of...

I've been trying to find a better photo to illustrate but this is all I can find

In the North of England we call these bogies. Other places say push-kart, soapbox racer, something like that. The essential feature is that they must be built on a zero budget, all the materials are from scrap. On mine the rear seat faced backwards so the boy at the back was an engine, powering the cart Fred Flintstone style, ruining his shoes in the process. Since I had the strongest legs it was always me on the back. We could get up some terrifying speeds and remember these thing never had brakes. So crashes were common. It was the same as with skateboarders, the more painful the bruises, the more gory the gravel burns, the more you want to go back and do it again, this time even faster. So dangerous, racing on the road, no helmets, and such fantastic fun.

I think Legos were by far the toy of choice for indoor playing. My parents had a fairly large semi rural property so there was plenty of space to play and dig and create outside when I wasn't wandering in the woods letting my imagination do most of the playing.
