The Republican National Committee’s resolutions committee quietly rejected a pair of resolutions critical of homosexuality Wednesday.

The controversial resolutions dealing with sex education and same-sex marriage threatened to cast a shadow on the first GOP presidential debate Thursday in Cleveland, as the party looks toward expanding its base in the key swing state. According to a member of the committee, both failed to gain support to be recommended to the full 168-member party governing body on Friday.

The first resolution, introduced by embattled Michigan national committeeman Dave Agema, would have encouraged “schools that are teaching the homosexual lifestyle in their sexual education class also include the harmful physical aspects of the lifestyle.” The second, which would have encouraged Congress and states to pass laws in an effort to nullify June’s Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide, was introduced by Louisiana national committeeman Ross Little, Jr. The Washington Blade first reported on the proposed resolutions over the weekend.

The Republican platform's actually ratified during their presidential nominating convention. This is just Reince Priebus, The Republican National Committee’s Chair, trying to lipstick up that pig before tonight's presidential debates.

And, good luck getting the rabidly homophobic Republican base and therefore every Republican presidential candidate, to go along...

:agree:I know, but the fact that the 2 resolutions didn't even make it out of committee is something. They are still light years away from even being a blip on my radar screen, as far as me ever even considering voting for a Repugnican, er Republican is concerned. It's just that this may be a slight crack in that mile thick glacier of hate, that is that party, today.

This is the process for forming the platform that will be ratified next summer. Those two resolutions are now dead. However, there is nothing to stop someone else from putting forward a similar item later in the year. We will have to see what arrives in Cleveland next July. Still, I agree with luvmuslmen that it's an encouraging sign.

Hardly encouraging. There is already talk of reversing the Supreme Court decision among many Republican thinkers. (Oh, the joys of occasionally watching Fox News....) They are convinced Marriage Equality can be reversed. First, stack the court with Conservative Judges. Then file the 'perfect' brief demanding the right to free expression of Religion. The Court takes up the case, the votes fall in their favor. Done and done.

The actions of Reince Priebus is merely a tactic to sway the popular vote. In the same way Jeb Bush delights in showing off his Spanish in the hopes that it will sway some Latino voters away from the Dems. Even though, when it's time to enact policy, the Republican Party is in complete agreement with Donald Trump on Immigration.

Bait and switch.

They haven't changed a bit.
