Hello Guys:

I hope that all is well with everyone...

I wanted to share something with you in hopes to get your opinions/beliefs on the subject matter. Have you ever had been in a moment where someone that you have not thought about from your past in years and all of a sudden, whether you are reading or looking at TV and the individual from your past name is the primary focus of one of the main characters of the book or whatever program that you are watching on TV or even when you are out shopping or out at dinner and a favorite song that they really liked a lot is being played over the speakers which all of a sudden takes you back to the time that you've spent with them. My great aunt had told me years ago that this had happened to her on a few occasions. However, she told me that her grand mother told her that when this happens, it means that either this individual is thinking of you or they are facing trouble in their lives.

The reason I bring this up because over the past couple of days, this is what I have been experiencing. The last time this happened to me, it was revealed to me from another source that the person was actually going through hard times in their lives.

With that being said, I am asking all of you whom have taken time to read this post which by the way, I am very appreciative and grateful that you did, do you believe in this or do you look upon it as just fate or a coincidence.

I think it's coincidence. Certain things trigger memories, and people always have problems of some sort. Otherwise, life would be perfect.

Logigally thinking I think it's not fate. But if you want to think of it as fate, then it brolly is fate. You can believe in what you believe and then you will believe in it:) And believing in somenthing can be quite healthy for your mind. (Previously forgot to put the 'not' in 'Logigally thinking I think it's 'not' fate. Changes the meaning quite a lot:))

I have to agree, it's just a coincident. I don't believe in fate, or anything that is pre-determined. Like mentioned, things can trigger memories, and you have no idea why. And if you want to find a connection, then there is always one to be found. :)

It's just that I remember this happening to me with a high school buddy of mine. He and I were so close that after graduating from high school, we worked at the same company for a few years. However, there was a period when we didn't see each other and lost contact for a while. Nonetheless, the same occurrences that I mentioned in my initial post took place. All of a sudden, he became a constant thought and everything I looked at or everything that I read, his name would appear in some form or fashion. I remember going shopping with my sister and all of a sudden, the speakers began to blast out one of his most favorite songs that he loved to dance to. Even my sister acknowledged that fact. However, once I got home, my mom had met me at the door to inform me that my buddy's wife had called to tell me that my buddy had died of brain damage.

There are millions of things that happen us each day, but our brain has to choose what to remember, and what not to bother with. Of all the millions of things that happen each day, many will be coincidences, the only ones that will be remembered are the note-worthy ones, so this biases our recollections massively.

You think of loads of people every day, it would be astonishing if you never thought of someone at a time when they were having a bad time. The fact that such coincidences happen is to be expected, no need to invoke anything mystical to explain the expected.

Well gotta say that it is indeed more than just coincidence... I do not believe in magic, god or any other fantasies that have been created by humans for humans so they can feel better. But I do believe that there's force that linked us to those we love, the brain is still a mystery and none can be one hundred percent sure that it was pure coincidence or fate... now fate for me is closer to "faith" and I do not believe that "faith" is an explanation for such situations. However I do believe that there is something that develops in our brain when we get very close to someone, few years ago Alex got into a car accident and I started feeling bad and dizzy as it was happening, when I was 30 and got my heart attack Alex was in school and he also started feeling weird and he just left school and drove straight home to find me unconscious on the kitchen floor. There's many example like that I can give as me and Alex have develop a bound that is almost so weird that I know when he'll be sick days before the very symptoms are showing.

I also have that very same ability with my children (most parents do.) Now I believe that all of you knows very well how I am definitely not into magical thinking, but those premonition aren't just coincidences if they tend to happens very often. It's a synchronization of brain waves between someone that are dear to you. And it doesn't mean that it will happen right away or that it will happens period.

The human body has the ability to anticipate its future emotional state by reacting moments before the actual event itself. Now I am not going to verse in the spiritualism aspect of premonition as I am not into those exaggerated studies of premonition phenomenons but I am a very very interested fellow in brain study, behavior and therefore jw4833 what you feel or what I feel is perhaps not considered scientific, but it does exist and yet not enough explained or researched in serious unbiased researches... sure one can go on the Internet and type premonition and they'll have all those charlatan websites selling books on how to increase your power of premonition, that is pure balderdash.

Thank you first of all Jake for taking the time to respond...the main reason why I posted this on the forum for discussion was a fact that you've mentioned in your response. What I'm trying to say is that if you have spent a certain amount of time with an individual no matter whether the end results were good or bad, more than likely, there is a certain connection that is shared between you two that will effect the both of you when you have gone your separate ways. I have had several situations like this in similarity with individuals that had spent a substantial length of time in each others' company and when we had gone our separate ways, out of nowhere, I would begin to think about them constantly which is out of the norm especially due to the circumstances at hand. And then, all of a sudden, these thoughts become so frequent that you begin to think in the regards of is this person okay or are there thinking of you or going through something in their lives.

It's not that when I have these moments that I categorized them as being "mystical" or "magic", I chalk it up to the fact as you've mentioned about Alexx and your children, that instinct just kicks in because they share a part of your life. Thanks again Jake:big hug:

Let me give another example that may break it down in better terms in order to understand what I am trying to say. I didn't want to bring this up, but it represents what I meant from my initial post. When my bf passed away, I was the one who found him. You see, usually after being sexually abused, my bf would accompany me whenever I had to go on errands or doctor's appointments, etc. However, I had evolved to the degree where I wanted to go alone since everything was located right in the neighborhood. Well, this particular day, I was in the doctor's office and all of a sudden, my mind was focused on my bf. I started to get paranoid with concern because I began to feel as if something was wrong. When I told my doctor what I was feeling, he suggested that I give him a call to see if he was okay. However, after trying to reach him numerous times, I did not get an answer which was odd because he always kept the phone at his reach especially when I was out without him. Nonetheless, I began to get very panicky and asked my doctor could we reschedule which he agreed. To my surprise, when I got home, I rushed in calling my bf's name out loud. After not receiving a response, I started running all through the house until I found him laying on the kitchen floor. I immediately called 911 and within a couple of minutes they were there trying to revive him with no luck. After arriving at the hospital, it was revealed that he had a brain aneurysm and died immediately. Now, I am not claiming myself to be spiritual, but I do believe that due to the amount of time that we've spent together, he became a part of me to the degree that I did not have to be around him in order not to be able to develop instincts to alert me when trouble or concern is near.

There are many people more suggestible than others, which often have to give a sense or respond to things that happen.
Above all, they have a desperate need to hear it from others.

It would be nice to have an answer or an explanation for everything, but it is not.

Often the answer is that we want or we need to hear.

Things happen for better or worse, whether we like it or not, regardless of our feelings.

I guess that because of my belief in God, I think that God can bring to our mind people who are going through a tough time. Sometimes we need to talk to people, but we don't know it, and I have heard lots of people talk about thinking of someone, and that person has rung shortly after. There are stories of people who have thought of someone, and then they contacted that person and found they needed help. Yes you could say it is just coincidence. But perhaps when there is so many coincidences we might start to suspect God has his hand in it. That's just my thought any way.

And what about those like me who doesn't believe in God, who doesn't think that god control our minds, who think that god is nothing else than our own consciousness... are those acts of god? Because from what I understand if one reject god, god is not going to do anything for us.

I don't believe this thread wanted to have an non-explicable phenomenon being all of the sudden fixed by some being created by the human's brain (the very same brain that makes you appreciate or depreciate all the color of the rainbow.)

Sorry I didn't want to stump on your beliefs... but god isn't the explanation or the answer to everything as much as science isn't either.

When the need for illusion is deep, most of our brain is used to not understand.
