When I had a poodle, he refused to eat dog food. The vet said to try cat food because it was usually of a higher quality. The fussy little thing still didn't eat the tinned stuff and ended up cooking turkey thigh and other cheaper meat cuts and giving him the dry mixer. He lived to an old age.

So I'd keep to the cat food if the dog likes it.

I remember when I first got my dog when she was 7 months old and she would not eat all - even though the breeder had given me a bag of the food she had been raised on. It was the stress of moving and a new home.

So I started from scratch. I made some chicken and rice for myself and I gave some to her in her bowl - some rice, mashed chicken and cooked carrots and broth. She ate that just fine. So, now I had a starting place.

After that I kept feeding her some of the chicken, broth and veggies - but I gradually worked in bits of her dry dog food - a little more each meal.

In the end, her diet was the dry dog food with a tablespoon of whatever I had cooked for myself mixed in to give her some variety and she was fine with that.

You could do something similar - gradually introduce the dog food mixed with whatever she likes to eat right now. Then over the course of about 10 days gradually adjust the proportions until she is eating mostly dog food.

I miss our dogs so much. I always enjoyed cooking for them and watching them eat. They were funny eaters too. The three of them would start at their own bowl then like clockwork they would shift to the next bowl in the circle. It was like a little dance ritual. And the smallest one always seemed to get the most to eat!

At first they ate what ever we ate be it beef, ham or poultry... grilled, roasted, fried or poached. In their later years the vet moved them to an all skinless, fat trimmed, poached chicken with broth but no rice ... because of their health.

They ate once a day but for years we would leave Kibbles & Bits dry food out for them to snack on.

I think all dogs love chicken. Just don't add salt because it's not good for them.

If she doesn't like chicken try turkey or lamb. Our dogs loved venison when my brother would have extra he always brought a few pounds of steaks and ground over for them.

I miss them so much. It gives me warm memories to talk about them. So please don't mind me rambling on. I apologize for the off-topic moments.

I have mostly cats and my dog loves cat food. I would recommend you try freshpet rolls in the refrigerated dog food section of your grocery store, it is the only dog food my dog will eat. My dog loves it and I switch out between chicken and beef. He also loves baked pig ears, watermelon, blueberries and wheat english muffins with a little butter and some peanut butter.

I remember the vet telling my mother that it is alright for dogs to eat cat food but not to have the cats eat the dog food. I think he said that cat food tends to have more nutrition in the smaller amounts than dog food does.

Mother cooked a large pot of rice porridge everyday. We kids ate it with sugar and milk. The cats, dogs and pigs got the same but no sugar and no milk.

Would not a diet of kangaroo meat make them hop and punch?
