There are a lot of other threads on this topic you should check...but two popular ones are Internet Download Manager and JDownloader - there are a few others, but I am most familiar with these two and both work well - a lot of it depends on personal preference.
Do downloads from rapidgator and others resume if interrupted with these?

Currently I am using IDM and yes sometimes the download will stop, sometimes with just .01% left, but you just have to restart the download and it finishes just fine. RG tends to be the biggest culprit, but it is really not that much a hassle.
The hassle is having to wait 2 more hours before you can restart the download. Or waiting all night and getting cut off as a free user.

Oh, sorry I did not realize you were asking your questions pertaining to "free" mode. Before I became a premium member with RG, I was NEVER able to download a single file in free mode. I believe you are going to encounter issues downloading in free mode regardless of a download manager, in fact it may be more difficult because of the wait time and/or captcha. I would suggest you pick a service and become a premium member, if you can swing the cost.
