Aww, a smile can show and give you so much 
Just talked about that with a friend last night and we both agreed that a smile can be even like sex; well just think on Rod Daily or Samuel O'Toole They have such a beautiful smile and for me the sun rises up just with one look in their faces
And in case of facial expressions, well there are a lot
and just a tiny change in the expression can have a huge effect.
But we need smilies and we will ever need them because that is what
people brings to each other and I'm sure everybody knows about the saying:
"A Smile speaks more than 1000 words"

Smilies enhance the written word in conversations, like here, that you can't necessarily do so easily without a facial expression.

Facial expressions are countless and they speak volumes with no words needed. Some a more subtle but they still say a lot when contemplated. After studying American Sign Language the power of facial expressions became more important to me as it is a significant part of communication in signing. I dare say there is little way to ever know an exact number of expressions because they are emotionally driven.
Not sure if you meant smiles or smilies but in either case no one can feel happiness from another person through anything as well as that of a smile. Same can be said to the use of smilies in chat.
One thing is for certain etilit, when I see your posts it always puts a
on my face. Just wish I had the time to reply to all of them
