ever been a Godfather? its a special thing in the catholic Church i think, but I'm not sure how it works..someone I love became one today:)

It's not just a Catholic thing, A godfather or godmother is someone who is chosen (and agrees) to care for your children in the event of your death.

It may be different overthere in the USA so you might want to check it out to be sure but I think that over here at least one of the Godparents MUST be christened/baptised into the catholic church..and has to "renounce satan" and that they "accept and submit to christ". They have to make these, and other, declarations out loud in the church as part of the ceremony.

For Catholics it's a big ceremony, but then again everything is a big ceremony for Catholics,lol.

But for many others it's as simple as asking and accepting. In the old days it was as simple as asking your best friend to take care of your kids if anything happened to you, now you need legal documentation...

My dad's a godfather, twice,
It get's confusing here:
he is protestant (church of scotland),
father of the children is catholic,
mother...i don't know,
each child is christened under the church of england (protestant)

In my dad's case it was his best freind asking him, as for anything happening to the children he would not have a legal leg to stand on if it's not written in the will of who take's care of them.
