I'm back from Paris...
Everything's ok for me, my family & friends...

I remember all the concerts I've been & parties at The Bataclan.
Lloyd Cole, New Order, The Crazyvores parties...

Tell me, Klymt, how has the feel of Paris changed? Is there a sense of apprehension or is it more resolution?

It is hard to tell what the people of Paris are feeling just watching the limited news media POV. Is the mood the same as after the Charlie Hebdo attack? Or is it something more?

Do the people seem worried or angry? Or both?

Watching CNN, MSNBC and the others doesn't give me any sense of what the common people are feeling, thinking, saying etc.

Do you live far from Paris? Was your trip home a long one? Were there checkpoints?

I have one thousand and one questions. When you feel like it or have time share some of the ways life has changed. You are an artist. A songwriter. I would love to hear your impressions rather than Christiane Amanpour's.

Well, friends, as you know it's a little bit difficult for me to talk in English (as every French ;) ) especially when it's about talking of feelings... but i'm gonna try, hoping you will excuse the mistakes and the language errors (even if I know that my english is better than your french !)

Well, i was in Paris this last week end and everyone was very sad, stagged, helpless..No one in the streets, no one in the restaurants, no one in the bars.. On Saturday night, i went to a birthday party at friend's and everyone was talking about the attacks until a friend came and tell us that as a member of the Civil Security, he has been called to go to the Bataclan during the night before to help... He just asked us to stop to talk about that because what he has just seen was highly unbearable...
So, another friend came with a lot of bottles of good french wine, of Champagne, another one opened a cupboard and take out a stack of 45 rpm vinyl from the eighties...
We spend the night singing old songs (Soft Cell, Eurythmics, The Cure, Bowie, The Clash, Sex Pistols, U2 and a series of French cheesy songs that you do not even suspect the existence!
It was our way to ward off the spell and send to hell those damn terrorists.
France is a country of culture, freedom of thinking and being. So yes ! we will resist and continue to live as we have the habit by going to concerts, going to drink beers and wine by terraces. And we will put them a finger, deep well.

I take the opportunity here to say thank you to all those around the world who have expressed their solidarity with the people of France and especially the Americans.
I know that here we often laughed at them but in difficult moments we recognize our true friends..and testimonies, the images we received here from the US, were a great comfort .Thank You, thank you !
Thank you !

Klimt - Thanks for taking the time to share your feelings, despite the language barrier.

As a Belgian ex-pat, I feel I should apologise on behalf of my nation. It seems that some of my countrymen carried out these ghastly deeds, and one one my countrymen master-minded the whole thing. Don't judge our whole country by the acts of these few nujobs.

Finally, you are of course right that our French is a lot worse than your English! :)

Thank you for sharing your experience in Paris last weekend. The mood of the party spoke volumes to me. Your friend who is in the Civil Security Service must have needed a taste of normal life and I'm happy to hear his friends accommodated his needs.

My impression is the French are a formidable, resourceful and adaptable people. This tragedy will not defeat such a strong people.

France is America's oldest friend and ally. I know America will do all in it's power to defend her.

My heart pumps blue, white & red for France tonight.

I think this scene from Casablanca sums it up best ...

Vive La France!

Having just read all the heartfelt posts in this thread, I am now sitting and staring at my computer screen with tears streaming down my face. Take heart. France will never be defeated by the barbarians of ISIS/ISIL.

Thanks Klimt.

Also - it seems the Belgian mastermind is no-more, having felt the full force of French law enforcement assisted by Belgian intelligence. Good - that's European cooperation I can really get behind!

It looks like the French have done a good job of mopping up this terror cell - hopefully this puts a stop to the attacks, and makes it easier for the French people to defiantly carry on with their lives.

P.S.
Nice to see a photo from my adopted home of Dublin in the list of global red white and blue. Does
anyone else think the building in the Dublin photo looks like R2D2 BTW?

It also seems the Belgian media jumped the gun, and the reports that the fecker had been killed were wrong :(

Still - good that they arrested as many as they did, even if le grand fromage was not amongst them.
