Hi all, I thought I had asked this question before but cannot find the post but there may be new software out since then anyway.

I want to be able to download some purchased DVD movies on to a tablet (MP4) for watching on long train or plane journeys and when away on holiday.

I was using Freemake but that stopped working and all d/loads from them now have a lot of ad-ware; pop-ups etc.X_X and you cannot download without this "Opencandy" installer getting installed aswell~X( I have looked at a few but all seem to have some problems either with add-ons or not simple to use...

So any recommendations for an alternative - my OS is Windows 7 :thumbs up:

check this, it's kinda all in one

Free Studio - DVDVideoSoft

it's freeware but developers need to eat too so it's adware, but you can skip everything during the install process.

I'm trying handbrake now, I'll wait and see how it goes. I tried to d/load an older version of Freemake Video Converter but it also has the OpenCandy attached but this time AVG flagged it up and was happy to quarantine it. Pardon my naivity/ignorance but I presume this means that I could d/load this version of Freemake completely safe from OpenCandy problems?

Handbrake is good but not the easiest to learn. Ive been using Format Factory which uses the same engine as Handbrake in a more idiot proof style.

Well I guess I'm not using it correctly :duh:- I set it for MP4 left everything else set as default - it took nearly 3hrs to deal with a movie and the result is totally corrupted and unwatchable ~X(

The default settings probably keep the original resolution, which on a dvd gives the processor a really hard time converting. 720 or even less should be enough for a hand held screen.
