Gay Murder Mystery Recommendations

I enjoy reading good murder mystery books and have read through most of Josh Lanyon's books and have also enjoyed Haley Walsh's Styler Foxe Mysteries.

I just finished a Donald Strachey book (Strachey's Folly) but found it a bit slow and boring. The book before that was First You Fall by Scott Sherman.

But so many of the gay fiction books out there have an obvious political bent to them which is often distracting. I'm looking for good mysteries with a sexy gay leading character. It gets old reading out evil reactionary republicans or child-molesting priests, etc, etc... enough with the politics, can't anyone write without getting up on a soap box?

I want to read a good murder mystery, not a political manifesto.

So, any recommendations?

Yeah, I know it's been a while since you asked but there is a site here with a lot of good recommendations for gay mysteries. I'm in the middle of Nathan Aldyne's first book Vermilion and I'm like the interaction so far. I also have heard that Joseph Hansen's Brandstetter series is really good. I have the anthology but I haven't started on that. How was First You Fall? The plot synopsis intrigues me.

How was First You Fall? The plot synopsis intrigues me.

First You Fall was pretty good, as was the next book, Second You Sin. I've just started reading the final book in the series, Third You Die.

The main character is a high-end male prostitute who's in love with a married police detective. There's lots of crazy over the top stuff, but the main character is still very believable. By the third book he's quit the rent-boy business and gotten a steady job, but ends up getting involved with a bunch of porn stars with very familiar sounding names, so I'm having fun reading this one.

A lot of these I buy online from AbeBooks . com - you can get gently used paperbacks for less than $4.

If you want something dark and creepy. "Now It's Time To Say Goodbye" by Dale Beck
is very good.
Peck is gay, the main characters are gay, but it's not a classic gay novel.
