Gay Pride in Moscow

This is maybe the first Gay Pride Festival without violence in Moscow.

Well I don't like parades. To me it's like being on exhibition where all eyes are curiously watching you.

Besides that they seem counterproductive. At least here where I live such parades attracted more society's violence and anger than achieved something constructive for gay population.

I believe there are other more appropriate public ways of fighting for gay rights. Like gathering on concerts, culture events for example. Not on protest marches.

It started as a smallish protest march here in the UK many years ago, it's now an annual festival with bands & singers and even hetero couples go. It's also not centred on London anymore, there are many all around the country.

I'm sure it helped bring the right kind of attention in the beginnings, it's now part of the calendar. I can't say it appeals to me all that much anymore but I have been in the past and have even done the pre-event march through London one year. It was/is just a bit of good fun and you can be as outrageous as you like.

For those from more sheltered areas of the country it's a weekend of welcome release to be more themselves.
