Neither this nor that! I am what I am! As a young teenager I was aware that I was other than the rest of my friends. To that time I have been very uncertain. And I was bullied at school and they called me "faggot". But an older guy in my school (he was not gay!) helped me and he gave me the advice to go to a gym. And knowing that I was growing stronger, that I got muscles gave me a new confidence and no one bullied me from than.

And today - as I have said I am what I am. And I feel good and happy and I hold up my head. I don't want to be another one.

I don't know if that will be the right answer you have expected - but that will be my answer to your question.

It's a 'situation', a 'state' nature gave us and we have to deal with any way we can. Some like shelter fortify themselves in order to not be bullied, others stay in the closet and again others adopt a 'anti-gay' stance in order to delude.

But it's nature and you can't go against it ! No reason to be sad or happy, YOU ARE like all other human beings, with no differences to them.

So accept the gift nature gave you !

It does not define me in any real way.

I am a man who happens to have fallen in love with another man. The fact that society feels the need to label me is their choice, not mine.

I see myself as infinitely more defined by my philosophical outlook on life, by my interests, and by my political views than by my sexuality.

I don't believe there is such thing as 'gay culture', because the only thing gay men have in common with each other is that they are men who are attracted to men. That's not the basis of a culture any more than hair colour is!

So - to me being labelled as gay by others means very little to me.

Yes but, depending on their situation, they may have other things in common such as being oppressed, ridiculed, marginalized. Also there is much more to gender that just attraction to a sex. This is a definite basis for coming together (no pun), sharing, and creating culture.

It's a basis for a rights movement, which I fully support, but not a culture.

There is a group of gays who are rather flamboyant who have decided to call their small sub-culture "gay culture", but they really don't represent even nearly all gays. I for one find the whole thing abhorrent!

You seem to have a rather narrow view of what culture is. Criticizing as you say the 'rather flamboyant' sounds like someone who is desperate to fit into mainstream culture.

You definitely haven't met me so!

I'm trying to think of a single time when I have fitted in with mainstream culture, but I can't think of one.

I've found the culture where I belong, it's the nerd culture. I don't do sports, I don't do modern music, I don't do dancing, I don't do fashion, I thirve on learning how things work, and I feel most at home with others who share my love of learning, science, and tech.

When I first came out I made the mistake that all gays partake in the gay culture, and tried it - BRIEFLY. It's so not my scene, and it turns out there are more gays outside the gay scene than there are in it.

You cause me to recall, curiousjoe, Kurt Wild's answer to a question as to whether he was heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual. Without a moment's pause, he responded "Just sexual." Just as there's nothing wrong with any of the three definitions provided in the question, there's nothing weird or strange or "wrong" about being just plain sexual. Different stimuli may arouse you at different times in different situations. And so...? Enjoy what you enjoy and love whom you love. No one has an ultimate right to judge you. Except you.
