So first of all I saw that Mac OS X 10.7 Lion has a 2.5 out of 5 stars on Apple.com with like 180 reviews. What pisses me off the most is that no matter if you download it or buy the thumb drive you can't install on a clean harddrive that has no OS. You can only install on a computer with 10.6. What if you have a computer that doesn't have an OS on it and your 10.6 DVD is scrached up what now you have to go and spend 30ish at Apple for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and then another 30 for the download or if your connection is crappy 70 for a thumb drive. Ugh and I thought only gangsters and the IRS extorted people!

Ususally, a software maker will have a full version and a cheaper upgrade version that is for existing users of the older product. Are you sure you're not confusing the two?

Apple's always charged a premium and it does seem as though their computers are left behind by newer software quicker than a Windows system but I wouldn't call them evil or rotten.

No the new Lion Requires 10.6 already installed.to work. Its only available for download and purchase on thumb drive but no full install just upgrade.

I don't know.... Why would you like to install Mac OS on a clean drive? I think the assumption is, whenever you're buying a Mac OS, you're upgrading your Mac system, since all Mac machines come with some version of Mac OS.

Yes but we had a problem with the computer and had to erase the drive and it's now blank and we need to install from scratch.

Guys - we are talking about a $25 upgrade to an OS here.

You won't even get Windows Home Basic for that, yet you get a more full-featured OS than Windows Premium for that price.

I'm pretty sure you can use the recovery partition on your Mac to install onto a blank HD - try rebooting while holding CMD+r.

Also - the DMG file needed to burn a DVD or Lion is inside the Lion installer package, if you burn it you can boot off it and install on a blank HD.
