Half-Life 2

So I can't even begin to say how pissed off I am with this game. So today I took a trip down to my local thrift store you know to see whats on sale. Sometimes they have good movies, electronics and video games. So when I was down there I saw Half-Life 2 it was like 3 bucks. I checked all the disk were there. Everything was good. I get home and I install it and I go to load it up. I forgot it uses Steam. I'm trying to navigate the Steam browser and figure out how to play it of which I never did. Then I was like maybe if I register it so I went to do that and it asked for a cd key which I had and input. It tells me that cd key is already in use by another account. No surprise I bought it used. The Steam website says they can't do anything about it for people who bought its used. I'm like wtf. Ugh so I'm so pissed off. Anyone has any ideas feel free.

Do you think that the company should be required to rectify my problem or should I just be out of luck because I bought it used?

you should return it, game stores are not aloud to sell games that are bound to an account my a serial number.

I bought it from a thrift store paid like 3 bucks but still to me its the principle of it all.

it isn't really the fault of Valve/Steam that thrift sold you a game with a serial that can only be used once. Thrift shouldn't have tried to sell the game in the first place. Most games these days that are for PC can only be used once and now that Xbox is heading down the same road, used console games will be a thing of the past too.

See that's stupid. Basically they want to kill the used market. I purchased it legally and so I think if I have all the cd's and necessary components then they Valves should be able to fix my problem. Its just a serial number issue everything else works.
