How are you said your parents, that you're gay?

Are you said your parents, other members of family, friends or schoolmates, about your orientation? Which way - confidential talk, or something else.
And what does they receive it?

Hi Elim, It never easy to let anyone know who you are...and telling them your gay is very hard, but, hear's the thing: do you want to let them know?

and if the answer is yes..than tell the person that you trust most first:)

and see what happens...LOL

then ask them for advice:) they may be able to help...good luck:)

That's great advice Thor! You might be suprised by the reaction Elim. The person you trust most probably already knows and will make it easier for you to spread the word. Be happy friend and best of luck!!!

Peace,

Depends on the family`s mentality... There are very nice and open minded parents and there are those parents who only see straight ahead... they don`t see on the left side or on the right side... they only see life as: marriage, kids, work work work and death. My opinion is that you first need to be OK with yourself being gay. After you found your inner peace and don`t think much about the "problem" of being gay and what the world will have to say about it, telling your folks about it wouldn`t feel so hard in the end.

All very great words of wisdom, Elim. I was closest to my sister and when I was a boy of 16 I was very confused over my orientation and needed badly to talk to someone and I'm happy I made the decision to go to my sister. She had already suspected I was gay and so she was very supportive but convinced me not to talk to my parents at that time...good move...unfortunately they would get the shock treatment a year or so later. oops...!!!

I was a strange one actually!! I liked girls (& boys) when I was young, but went off girls and went towards the guys for some time. I told my Dad in a car and he guessed already. Probably from some of the company I kept. My brother didn't take it badly , my Mum didn't either, although she was convinced I'd find a nice girl :p

It was years later I had to "come in" so to speak LOL That was actually more difficult , admitting after several years I liked a girl! :p

Straight people, and I use the term as those who only see one thing or another and can't handle diversity so easily, have difficulty in understanding that you can like both. That goes for gay friends too. I lost a couple I had when I started dating women again.

I find it goes both ways. I've met so much gay prejudice against women, or gay guys that are against someone who likes women ("he must be gay", etc) and straight guys against gays , that I gave up thinking about it.

I'm free - I've said before, I'll say again, I detest labels. You like who you like regardless.

brilliant x!!! In old school days a guy was EXPECTED to bring home a girl he likes but it's 2009!!! WHY NOT! If I bring home a guy who means something to me - who's to judge? SERIOUSLY??? Just the fact you've found love with "someone" is SOMETHING!!! Why should anyone care today if it's someone of the "opposite" sex or not?

I remember talking to a friend of mine who had just been confronted by his mother about a gay relationship that he had been trying to keep from her, having been closeted at that point. He told me that his mother took his face in her hands and told him, "A mother wants to hear it from her son."

Ten minutes later, I called my own mother and came out to her. Those words were so powerful, and I'm sure very true for a mother.

I also agree that the labels we use for sexual orientation are pretty much outdated. Straight, gay, bi--who cares? I am a human being who desires emotional and physical intimacy, and in whomever I find those things is what determines my sexuality at any given time. There's really no more to it than that.
