have found one of your posts and noted you use p&h
at the bottom of the page your image is on you will see a section - BB (forums) code for image
click on the button - Original - then copy and paste the code to your post

What you say should be absolutely right BUT the result is as you see below in spite of the fact that the word 'original' appears in the URL and the original is much bigger.
I must admit to never using P&H as I can only access it via proxy so there may be a trick...
Meanwhile, I suggest you use another image host:
