Downloading here today I noticed an advert.Nothing unusual but it was for a sportshoe firm which I used this week.Downloading on a torrent site last week was a advert for a firm I bought a freezer from.I presume this is not by chance.Is this a new innovation in advertising?

nothing new, just directed marketing. Any time you do a web search for a product, your inquiry gets passed on to others, who in turn place ads on other sites. You look up a product, they take note of your IP address and whenever you visit another site that they work with, they match your IP with products you've searched for, and direct an ad tailored to your perceived intrest ...

Now you know why Google and Yahoo are worth billions...
