i was in a discussion with bf about a cd he bought...and it said...audio was in 3D...and im thinking WTF??? how can your ears have more than 2 at most

but than i start thinking:thinking: lol

how many dimensions are there? do we know? if you look at space is there an end to anything? lol

Actually I never thought about the question if audio is in 3D. But answer must be yes. You are able to locate a bird that is whistling somewhere up in a tree. Your ears can trace the direction and distance and by moving your head you can determine the altitude. I think, ha, ha.
Humans are only able to determine three dimensions. In mathematics you often work in more dimensions (for example differential equations of mathematical physics*). Actually you don't know what you do, but the obtained answers are correct when you check it in the formula.
* I am not sure if this is the correct name in English, it is a rather one to one translation from Dutch.

We can tell the difference between something under our feet or over our head, between something in front of and behind us, and something to the left and the right of us, so that means we hear in three spacial dimensions. We also hear when something comes after or before something else, so you can argue we hear in 4D.

On the bigger question, we know for sure there are 4 dimensions, three spacial ones, and time. We are also very confident there is at least one more, spacetime curvature as described by Einstein's theory of relativity, then things get a lot more speculative. Depending on which of the many versions of String theory you believe, there are 10 or 11 dimensions. The math for String Theory hangs together, but there is ZERO empirical evidence for any of the many String Theories to date.

Which brings you back to the original question. A one dimensional infinite, a two dimensional infinite, a . . .
I am curious and open to new and different. It will be difficult for my feelings to grasp things that seem so alien. Hopefully my "thinkwindow"* will be open enough.
