No one person can change the world - but I do think it's important for all of us to pull our weight and make the small sacrifice of staying informed on the important issues, and voting. If everyone lucky enough to live in a democracy could do that we'd live in a much better world.
As George Bernard Shaw put it "Democracy is a system that ensures we are governed no better than we deserve".
Apathy is a bad politicians wet dream, and it feeds a vicious circle. The less people care, the more politicians get away with, the more despondent people get, the more politicians can and do get away with ........
The only antidote to shitty politicians is the ballot box, and the only way to wield that power is to know what your politicians are up to in your name, and what their records are on the issues that matter in your life. If your elected representatives do things you disagree with, let them know! By all means rant and rave about it to your mates in the pub, but also send their office an email - that way your anger is not completely wasted.
