So if being gay is genetic, in part or completely, than shouldn't we members of the lgbt community try to pass are genes down as often as possible? After all what would make humanity more open to the lgbt community than having more lgbt people?

I'm not saying that we should all find a woman to knock up and raise a kid with (although that is an option), but what if gay guys just donated a bunch of sperm to sperm banks? Sure some places have restrictions on us doing so but if you know you're healthy (been tested recently, etc) than why not? It's not like anyone is making you tell the clinic you're gay

I dunno about the donating thing. Thinking about what my children may have to go through if they were gay/lesbian and me not being able to be there for them just doesn't feel alright.
So I probably wouldn't do that.

It is a wonderful bit biochemistry ( or whatever) that strait people have gay children. As long as they continue in this good work...let them have at it.
There may come a time when this can be determined ahead of time. Then we may have to take emergency measures!

Well of course they could be born straight, but somewhere in their genetic make up would possibly a recessive homo gene waiting to passed on to the next generation... we're playing the long game here.

And even if there's no gay gene, and the kid is straight, should he/she ever try to find you later on when they're adults, maybe knowing they're related to a gay person will change they way they think about gays for the better

A lot of people have a "homo gene" already otherwise there would be no gays and lesbians. Don't forget that during human history most homosexuals were forced to marry and get children because of the society. To be able to live "out and proud" is a realtively new thing, maybe 40 years now. And that is nothing if you look at the homo-sapiens as a species. 40 years compared to 5000 years or longer...

And even if there are "gay families" like the Manns, I don't think that the "hetero" can be bred out. There have been so many attemps to breed a new kind of man in history, none of them have changed much.

And even if there's no gay gene, and the kid is straight, should he/she ever try to find you later on when they're adults, maybe knowing they're related to a gay person will change they way they think about gays for the better

I hope this goal could be reached without having us poor gays procreating like rabbits. ;) I for myself hope that my existence made my family think better about gays. Maybe they think less about them after my coming out. :D

What I would find more interesting would be: how many people would become gay and lesbian in a real non-repressive world?

That's the question the next few decades will answer.

If the stigma of gay is reduced, will there be lots more gays?

More likely, will people have more fluid sexual natures? Horney teenage jocks with raging hormones playing with each other? Maturing into strait couple relationships to bond and have children? Or any assortment of other routes.
There will still be true gays and true straits, but I suspect that middle will grow, maybe a lot.

No research have shown that the biggest homophobes are often homosexuals who cannot cope with their homosexuality.

Whether or not there is a gay gene, or many gay genes is very much and open question today.

But, even if you assume it is genetic, then there may be absolutely no point in us breeding indiscriminately.

One possibility is that your sexuality gets determined in the womb by the hormone balance in there - the gay gene would in fact make women more likely to make gay babies. In this scenario, even if a single gay man never made a baby, there would always be gay babies because the gene would travel down the female line, from mother to mother, and the gay sons would be of no importance for the gene's survival into the future.
