Decided yesterday that I'm running out of room, so was prepared to pay around £100 to get a new 1TB hard drive. Well, I found a 1.5TB usb drive for the expected price !! I think I'll now last till the end of next year :p I now have 3 drives, but prefer to keep my main internal PC as clear as I can.

I think the weekend I'm going to be busy ripping CDs (want all my tracks in a handy place) and transferring data :p

Finally, and I must have been lucky all these years, I got myself a surge protector too. Heard horror stories but it's one of those things you just put off! If you don't have one get one !!

How do you mean lost?? It crashed or something??

Was it a My Book/Western Digital?

No, it's an Iomega usb drive, same as my existing one only bigger ! I did see a my book but haven't a clue what the difference is, just looked for something with lots of space that won't break the bank !

I bought a Seagate 1.5TB drive usb external drive not long ago. But was so frustrated with it, I took it back. I want to reformat it how I want it, and those premade won't let you do it. So I ended up buying an internal 1.5TB drive and a external shell to make my own.
That way I can partition it the way I want. I put on 4 partitions. One for backup, one for all programs, letters documents, etc., one for all music, and one for video.
Microsoft sucks how it wants the entire hard drive for itself. Which is TOTALLY ASININE. Then when Microsoft crashes or get destroy, everything on your drive goes with it. Or when you defrag it takes days.
What I do is only have Windows and the programs it needs on the C partition of my normal internal drive, all my documents and programs I've added are on another partition, one partition for Linux, and I have several internal hard drives.
I'm probably jinxing myself, or tempting fate by say, no virus or any of that garbage can destroy my whole system. The only thing that can get destroyed is Windows, but the computer will always boot up and pass off to "grub" where I choose which operating system to use, and if Windows is "toast" I can go into Linux, and still get all my stuff.

I just bought a 1T external from Dell on a "cyber monday" deal for $70 and free shipping - just too good of a deal to pass up although I don't need that much storage right now I probably will down the road. Weird to be working in Terabytes though...what's after that?

I've been told to stay away from all of those huge HDD, and stick to ones that are 500gig and smaller. I've heard a lot of people complain that the bigger ones tend to fail much more often...

At the moment I have a 40gig to run my operating system and programs and another 80gig internal for storage, but I do have a back up copy of Vista on it in case of a primary drive failure...

I'm planing to get an external casing for the 500gig SATA HDD from my other machine to see if I can salvage all the movies that were on it though...

Until then, I have two DVD burners and a shit load of blank disc...:p

Finally, and I must have been lucky all these years, I got myself a surge protector too. Heard horror stories but it's one of those things you just put off! If you don't have one get one !!

Good luck, it was the surge protector that shorted out and fried my good computer...:(

Yes, that's right. Some of my friends had by far more problems with their 1TB+ HDDs.
I still stick to my several 500GB, 320GB & 160GB HDDs but I should do backups of them anyway.

Oh well I don't want it for anything that can't be replaced easily. If they were all bad they wouldn't be able to sell them, so cross fingers !!

Knew I should have asked you lot before being impulsive :p

I didn't know that about surge protectors !! Maybe it was a one in a million bit of bad luck. Most I know use them without problems. It was friends who kept urging me to get one !

I've been using the net since 1996/97 and so far have never even had so much as a serious virus , let alone any crashes. Maybe I've just been lucky ;)

If it's a one in a million chance for bad luck, then I'm the one...:(

That just proves that lottery winners are not cursed, just stupid. If winning the lottery were a curse, I'd have hit the Power Ball when it was $300 million...:p

I have 3 Buffalo USB TurboMiniStations ,120gb or 250gb.. shock protected and fast loading (they claim to load at up to 60% faster than standard).. Amazon usually have good deals on them .. I chose to go for 3 "small" sized rather than 1 huge sized as it spreads the risk.. and my "all time must keep favs" are saved to more than 1.

I have 2 internal SATA drives. One of them used to be external :) One is 640 Gs and the other is 160 GBs so a total of 800 GBs and I have around 60 GBs free on both of them together :( I`m thinking about buying a new one @ 500 Gbs maybe (a 2.5" external) so I can connect it to my WD HDTV player this way not being forced to put all the m0vies I wanna watch on a memory stick...

Anyways, I cannot picture what exactly you have on your hard drive Xman! LOL! I don`t picture you as a massive porn dlder who saves every clip....So, care to share what exactly are you storing? Maybe hacking infos? Hacking software? :)

Same here! :) Neither my old laptop (which my brother now has) and my desktop have had virus. Some annoying fake virus popped up once but I found a way to delete it and have had no problems since. :)
