Hi. Been feeling really deflated for some time.
And in need of a good pick me up.
Any recommendation of uplifting/inspirational/gospel songs done by female jazz vocalist.

Im currently listening to:
dianne reeves better days
diana krall narrow daylight
norah jones humble me
billie holiday god bless the child
ella fitzgerald spirituals
sarah vaughan the lord's prayer

any good ones you may know to help a friend in the depths out?
Thanks

Anything by Ben Tankard. Since he came on the national scene in 1990, there have been many titles associated with Ben Tankard, from the Quincy Jones of Gospel to the father of GospelJazz. He has won 9 Stellar Awards, 34 Stellar, 8 Dove, 3 Grammy nominations and is the best selling GospelJazz instrumentalist in the world.

Also a “hit-maker” producer, Ben discovered Yolanda Adams and has produced several top records on her as well as collaborations with Take-6, Fred Hammond, John P, Kee, among others. Tankard’s 1997 hit song “Git Yo Praize On” with his ensemble, Tribe Of Benjamin, has become the most used phrase among praise teams. In regard to vocals, check out Kim Burrell...she is known as the gospel answer to Ella Fitzgerald because she uses a lot of jazz scatting in her music and vocals. A lot of contemporary artists looks up to her in high regard. And then there's Take 6...they are basically known for their acapella music... but they have made a lot of recordings in later years accompanied by some of the top jazz artists in music.

I know of a great gospel song by a female vocalist that always gives me a lift when I hear it, but it's not a jazz song. But .. I'll still offer it to you from a friend (me!) wanting to help out another friend (you!) in a time of need.
Do a search on youtube for 'I Know Who Holds Tomorrow - By Alison Krauss - With Lyrics' and choose to watch the one with the great Autumn (Fall to you guys probably!) coloured leaves.
May it help in some small way to brighten your day .. Hugs

Thanks for the input. I actually heard that song, "I know who holds tomorrow" sung by Kelly Price.
I'll look into Ben Tankard and your other generous recommendations.

Currently putting together a compilation so I can listen to it when i feel like sinking. That and sharing some video files in the other sections/threads - if I can't have a happy ending for myself then I'll try to give a happy ending to others.

My heart jumped when I saw the name of Etta James here. They are all good singers here but she the one for me, when she sings raunchy she could make me wish I was straight. The best singers learnt to sing in the house of god and used the knowledge to make the devils music. Thanks slim.

If I may add one more singer to the list, Jean Carne has often sang material which is beneath her but when she gets a good song to show off her range, that voice is beyond belief.
