Not at all. There is always something that you can do. I have chatted with people in terrible situations, and there is always something you can do to help them, even if it is only listen. I gusee the question is how much are we willing to do, and how uncomfortable will we get to help others?
Nope I completely disagree. Looking back throughout history you'll see where otherwise insignificant people have completely revolutionized the way we see ourselves and the universe. If everybody had that attitude, we'd go nowhere and probably end up back in the dark ages.
I think most people realize that they can make a difference. But at the same time they realize the difference they make is very small. They then rationalize that they shouldn't try because their effort creates such a minuscule result.
Tell that to George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Benjamin Franklin, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, etc...

Everyone serves a purpose for someone else but I believe there's more people we're meaningless to. Some people take on an important cause for many and others simply serve as an example to a small few. Your personality and what you've done with your life are huge factors there.
How big a stage do you need to make a difference on? Every human interaction creates change of one sort or another. You can stick with making small changes or you can move to a bigger stage, attract or join allies, build movements.
