Kids........Arg

There are so many things in life that can depress you...but I think issues with the kids....do it the worst for me. Just had a horrid fight with my 2 sons. Like the perfect storm of fights.

The 2 sons were fighting with each other first because one called the other one a loser...then somehow...I got involved....shouldn't have.

The one son, who called the other a loser, has gotten super heavy involved with a Baptist church because of a girlfriend. His church beliefs have put him and I on a collision course. His church activities to me are on the verge of being in a cult. He's 17, so guess I have to accept that he is a right wing christian whatever...but it so against everything that I believe, I guess he has no respect for my beliefs at all, he rejects them all.

I guess what best describes me is that I am an agnostic, but also embrace some religious philosophies...such as "love one another", the golden rule, etc. I don't believe in the bible as Christians do, I see it as more of a historical doent.

They have my son convinced...the bible is the literal word of god and that Creationism is fact. Fuck that shit.

If this fucking religion shit is so great.....
why do people kill each other over it?
why do people hurt each other various ways over it?
why does it split families up?

Unfortunately...i think all this has created a split between my son and I that will never close. I just love a fucking religion that preaches "honor thy father" and then ignores it if the father doesn't believe that folk tales are the literal word of god.

I'm such a failure as a parent...I should never have had kids.

You are not a failure, Intense...as you said, your one son is involved with his church, a Baptist Church no less, becaue of a girlfiriend. Love is blind and my guess is, although I would never "wish" this on anyone, that his core beliefs will probably win out and his church-faring days, at least to that degree, will be over. But, in any case, and I've known alot of Baptist congregants, and while over the top conservatively at times, they are very pure, loving and compassionate...even to a gay person like me, who was part of a Baptist congregation at one time...and for your son, in these days, a Christian lifestyle isnt the worst thing in the world. Compromise for now...your relationship can still flourish.

p.s. was the fight with your other son about his religion? Was that the "loser" reference?

sorry if anyone here believe in it, but the creationism is an absurd theory... to be right, its not a theory, there no any base to say that xD And the bible is not a storic doent or anything else, is just a book, its important cause is a part of human's culture and literatura but at first, its not the direct god's word, is just a book who someone [the most probably is that there were several guys in several ages] wrote, maybe to put some order in this world, and in the one hand it worked [respect, work, honor... etc] but in the other, its a completely mess. The church has done so many harm... La Inquisicion, called the black story of spain, is the best example of it.

The religions are not completely false, but you can't believe in anyone so easily! It doesnt matter in what do you believe, the important is being kind with other people, help, have a right behaviour, love, work hard... Thats all

I've always said that the Bible is a book of politics. It's been used and rewritten and reinterpretted (just as all religious books have) to suit the leaders of the time and instill control.

For a start their appears evidence that the early days of Christianity had a lot of women's influence, but some time later the men wrote that part out & assumed control.

Religion has often been a prop for people, and it's those who need it that are heavily influenced. I doubt the world would be any better without it, there would only be something else to take its place. We just have to live with it and accept it's there, like it or not, but I ignore it as much as possible and will turn off the minute anyone tries preaching at me!

My 2 cents IP,... (and probably not worth more than that but here goes...)

Brothers always fight - that's just the way it goes. I HATED my brother (5 years older) because he was an ass and treated me like a piece of crap. As soon as I grew bigger than him he developed a little respect. We've been fine and really best friends ever since. Siblings have to find their own equilibrium...it has nothing to do with the parenting.

The older kid is just chasing pussy. He has no idea what he really believes, but he thinks this is something that's going to get him layed so why not buy it hook, line, and sinker. The way he can prove it to the girl is by trying to "save" his dad...if dad doesn't buy it...he can also look like a hero by putting himself on a higher plane than his "sinner" dad. It's a win/win for him and a really uncomfortable situation for you but a LOT of dads have gone through around the world and you have no reason to feel bad or like you failed man....not at all! Time will sort everything out...
