Makeing Download Links Hidden by Thanks

OK, so now that I've been uploading some to RG and the providing the link to get it, I wanted to know how it is that a lot of guys will hide the links until you press the "Thanks" button. Not that I really want to force people to thank me for things, but in general, how do you do that?

This might be a little off topic but I really wish there were another way to "protect " content than to force people to thank a post or either a way to force everyone who takes from a particular post to say thanks.......Some of the best posts I have seen are not hidden and receive very little appreciation.......It's really a very unbalanced system .......People should really be respectful enough to thank posts without being forced , but over 90% are not in this forum....Sad really.... Also, I should have said thank you Haiducii for always saying thanks to my gay themed streams even if they are not really good ones......I know you are really thanking the efforts involved such as the time I took to find the material, run searches, post it ..

People should really be respectful enough to thank posts without being forced , but over 90% are not in this forum....Sad really....

I fully agree with you. Sadly, but true. Moral values on this forum are getting worse. The only time u hear from many is if they want to complain that one pic out of 400 is corrupt...

Some weeks ago I made an experiment in GTM thread. I posted a movie with unhidden dl links. Guess how many guys watched this movie ? Only 8. I was wondering if this post would be thanked 882 times, if the DL links were NOT hidden.

I think it can be useful and enlightening to look at the statistics concerning how many members who make more posts than the absolute minimum necessary to not get kicked out of the forum there are, and the very simple truth is this: Active posters are a tiny-winy minority.

Some of us active posters put in a lot of work into this forum, and I find the idea that we should bend over for some kind of abstract ideal of total freedom meaning that no one should be "forced" to push the Thanks-button patently absurd. NOT a bad idea, but a patently absurd idea.

GH just like any other net forum exists in a SOCIAL context, inside a social community, and any idea of total freedom is just absurd in any kind of social community.

Clarice Starling had to learn from the great social philosopher dr. Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter that the social constitution is always tit for tat, you scratch my back if I scratch yours...

Ages ago I stated on the "Show yourself off" thread to protect my very private pics from being viewed by not members, there must be not a "thanks" button to Show the Content (Hide function), It should be called "Show me" button and the "Thanks button" should stay for really appreciation...
Anyway there must be an acceptable possibility to protect Contents from being viewed by everyone...

Users of the "Hide" -"Thanks" functions are no token whores...lol

Hiding Links

Well, I certainly didn't think that subject would start a debate! lol. Thanks to haiducii for trying to spell out how to do it. I went and experimented on one of the posts and I couldn't get the hide to work when the kept the post in "preview". When I actually hit the save button is when it told me the link was hidden. So that was pretty cool to figure out.

Like I said though, I'm not going to hide the links. I hate when I go to a post I want to download, click on the Thanks to get the link, and then the link is dead. What as the point in thanking someone for a dead link?

If one of mine goes dead, please let me know and I'll repost the link. I'll be buying a new RG subscription here soon so the links stay longer, and so I can download some that I have bookmarked. But I have 30 days to do that.

So thanks to everyone for their comments and again to haiducci for the instructions.

I think that your distinction is fully legitimate and very worthy of consideration! And I think I've got some very cloudy memory from years ago having read posts from you on this specific topic.

"Thanks" is appreciation in a short form from heart,

guys, be aware the forum is running on his limits also with an obslolete forum software, it's probably to risky to change anything in the codes here, thats why also the [DL] or [PW] codes dont get fixed. Same would be with adding new forum-codes. it's high sensitive at all ^^


do not blame it on the gh staff, they only can keep things running with what they have, major changes can only be made by the forum owner, which is still Planetsuzy if i am not wrong. GH is a "stepchild" from PZ since it's not profitable anymore like before Mega-Raid, when some filehosters did pay the server bills here.

so the hide feature is more to protect against crawlers and similar bots, i only can recommend to use it this way.

I use the THANKS button to judge how popular a particular clip is I post in my thread.

More THANKS helps me post similar clips. Clips with very few thanks I know are not what people want so try not to post those kind of clips

and many sites require that you have a certain number of posts before you are allowed to download certain files ... should we start using that function instead?

The right way to have the forum full of wow/hot/thanks/Awwww/Good and so on messages X_X

Which is why we have the forum rule about 1 and 2 word posts and why we use the "thanks" button instead....
