Avast and AVG are free anti-virus but both have real-time anti-malware included.

If you want a dedicated malware removal tool take a look at
Malwarebytes but be aware that this is ONLY a remover, it does not provided real-time protection.

Well take a look at Adware Remover; Spybot - Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware Total Security

The only one I have used myself is Spybot

Sometimes using the System Restore can be very useful in getting rid of things. I once had a Rootkit that I could not get rid of, and I had downloaded around 8 different programs that all claimed to remove them... I did a Restore to a week or two earlier and was very relieved to find it was gone! :thumbs up:

In the work place, there is only one way IT pros deal with malware - wipe the computer and restore the user's data from the last backup before they got infected.

The reason for this is simple, it's the only reliable fix. Once your computer is infected, nothing is reliable, the malware can interfere with everything going on in the computer, including the AV that is trying to remove it.

It's painful, but if you want the best chance of killing what ever you got for good, format the lot and start over!

Try "TIMEFREEZE" before you install any app or use your web browser to visit unfamiliar sites...

You're right gb2000ie the best thing you can do is do a system restore to a date when everything was still "clean".
Download and install all kinds of removeprograms is just a waste of time and pure "commerce", they scan your computer and mentioning all types of threats and remove only when you pay, where as a normal scan or system restore offer the best solutions, at least that is my experience.
