Hi Guys

I know this might sound silly, but does anyone know how to make a mobile device battery drain quickly? I recently bought and upgraded my phone and the guy at the store told me that the best way to get better longer battery life performance on a Mobile phone and a Tablet PC device, is to charge it first when you open the box which i did and after it's fully charged, switch the device on and leave it without using it until it gets to 2 or 10% battery life and then re-charge it again to 100%, I haven't switched my new phone off since Thursday and the battery percentage is only just 83% from 100%

I kinda have used it a little bit when i shouldn't of, due to what the guy at the store told me that i never knew we have to do that first before using it.

I hope someone could help with this, as i really want to start using the device full-time and to transfer all my stuff from my old phone.

Thank you very much in advance for helping me with and Have a Great Weekend :)

Never heard something like that

Instead I knew it would be better to never go (if possible) under 15/20%

Actually, batteries also kind of have a memory. The batteries themselves don't, but their control circuitry does, a microprocessor measures the charging and discharging currents and uses that to estimate the battery level.

Over time, these estimates deviate from the real battery level. You can reset these estimates by 'recalibrating the battery', which is done by fully charging, then fully discharging and then fully charging again.

you should not do this often, because that will quickly degrade your battery. I think it is generally recommended to do this once or twice a year or, even better, just when you suspect that the reported battery level is wrong.

If I were in your shoes I'd enjoy my new phone without worrying

Hi RockNLol:heart:

Aww thanks for your Kind comment & letting me know that, hmm i thought it was common to do this, well i don't know why the guy who sold me the phone told me to do this with the phones battery, if its not necessary nor heard of before:thinking:

& yes you are right, i did read somewhere that its not good for the battery to go lower than 20% percent and thanks for explaining to me in detail about the batteries in our phones and the suggestion on what i should do, that's so nice and kind of you, thank you  I'll remember that on how to reset it the next time i recharge the phone and it's alright i won't do it that often, so that it doesn't degrade it like what has happened to my old phone and now my PC's battery.

Man looking after the batteries can be hard work, hopefully one day in the future or near future they make better batteries, so that we don't have to worry about them too much.

And thanks, i know that if you were in my situation you would enjoy the phone my friend and I do enjoy my new phone and it's alright i won't worry too much then, i just remember to not recharge it too often and to never let it go under 20%.

I believe you were given bad advice!

The chemistry of batteries has changed a lot over the last 10 years, and while it was true 10 or 20 years ago that you should regularly 'cycle' a battery (charge, empty, charge), that is not the case with modern batteries.

You'll notice Apple DO NOT give that advice: http://refhide.com/?https://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/

Modern batteries can actually be damaged by being fully discharged, so advising people to do that is actually a really bad idea. A modern battery is at it's most content when it's about 50% charged. Make it hold too much charge for too long, and it gets damaged, empty it completely and it gets damaged.
