More Rapidshare restrictions

I don't use them for storage but looks like they're imposing more restrictions on their accounts. Had this message from them today - not to mention they currently seem to be down again, even for premium account holders!!


we hereby inform you of a modification regarding the file inactivity regulations for Collector's accounts. The guaranteed storage time of a file after the last download (or after the upload, if a file has never been downloaded) will be lowered to 60 days on January 1st, 2010.

Please note that Premium accounts whose files use more than 50 GB of storage are subject to the same storage rules as Collector's accounts.

If you do not agree to the Terms of Use, you are entitled to cancel the contractual relationship within a time limit of four weeks as of receipt of this notification. Should you not make use of your right of cancellation, the alterations are presumed to be accepted and become an effective integral part of the contract.

ok ya i got it too but they sent it to my premium acct email addy, nothing to my collectors acct addy....thats weird!!!

I just got it too. I have a premium account. This pisses me off. I can understand doing this sort of thing for a free account, but for a paid account? 50GB is not a whole lot of space. I picked RS because they're arguably the most established, because I didn't want to upload files to some service that folded and disappeared into the night.

I wonder if any of RS's primary established competitors will be attempting to do this, too.

I also wonder if downloading your own files will reset the 60-day limit.

I have a proxy but it would then be slow with the download, because to RS it would appear it's being downloaded by a non-premium user. I never sign in to my RS account when I'm on my proxy because that can trigger an account closure.

I wish there was a file host that just let you upload without having to think about when they might be deleted , that you also don't have to worry about privacy issues. Media fire says they don't allow porn in their terms of service but they clearly have tons of it up there. So don't know if I host any of mine up there if it will be taken down. But yeah...60 days ...that's very temporary

well, i was only saying to do it one time to reset..and RS wont flag your acct till you have 5 diffrent ip addys in one 24hr time

and some proxys are slow, but i use a program...so its faster..lol

I never got into the collector account thing.

No changes from RapidShare for us using our premium accounts.

If you are Premium and have over 50GB storage there is a change. I don't recall this size restriction before.

Per the notice: "Please note that Premium accounts whose files use more than 50 GB of storage are subject to the same storage rules as Collector's accounts." (My emphasis added.)
