I'm almost scared to see this version in case it doesnt do enough justice to a book that I love so much. It is so difficult to edit the story down to make a managable film without losing vital scenes. Without truncation the book would take 50 hours to play out, not many people would want to spend that long in the theatre. The best version I have seen so far is the 1982 French television production, that crams it into three and a half hours without any serious gaps. Fingers crossed this one turns out well.
Well the previous Les movie with Liam Neeson was actually good and captured the essence of the book. I know movies really pale in comparison to the its original novels and I ended up hating most of them, but this looks promising. But I don't know, I'll wait and see if its up to par.
I'm excited to see it also. Although I don't want to get my hopes up
to much, as I've seen the stage show several times, and the singing
was astounding. The movie will have a far stronger more powerful
story with the effects that Hollywood can do.
