So my playlist is filled with a wide mix of stuff. I have everything from Celine Dion to Kesha. I have Diana Ross and U2 and they all strike a cord somewhere in my life. I'm curious whats in your playlist? Is it all the same? Is completely random? I don't know what my life would be like with out music. Some of it makes me depressed and sad but yet I still listen. Some make me dance and some empowers me. So what in that playlist of yours? What do you listen to?

Well there is lots and lots of U2. Pink Floyd, Coldplay. But also classical music. There is The Fray. Queen. I think they are the main things I listen to.

I mostly listen to music that's older than me :p

<---- my tag line should give a clue , usually these days I seek out old rockin' rarities from the 50's and early (pre-Beatles) 60's . I used to listen to a wider mix and have something from every single genre in my collection in various formats, but I've narrowed it a lot in recent years and, for me, I can't beat the 50's for music, whether it rocks or it's soft, I love everything from that decade.

I'm listening nowadays these: Dimmu Borgir, Shade Empire, Shinedown, Before the Dawn, Arch Enemy, Poisonblack... yep, I love metal, but I also like classical music like Grieg, Tchaikovsky, etc. And Buck-Tick, Miyavi, Gackt, Blackmore's Night, Sarah Brightman... etc etc

I could list all of the artists, but I'd rather not.
I've got a ton of video game soundtracks (Deadly Premonition, StarCraft, Tekken, Star Wars Dark Forces, Steel Reign, Command & Conquer), some industrial (Angelspit, Chemlab, KMFDM, Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Pig, Pigface, Excessive Force, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Skinny Puppy, Foetus) and then I got some ambient music (Klaus Schulze, Earth, Detektivbyran, Delerium), I got some pop (Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears, Kraftwerk), and some experimental (Ensturzende Neubauten, FM Einheit). They all inspire me in different ways.

I like a fair range of music, but my main love is reserved for what's loosely termed "progressive rock". That includes the great progressive bands from the 70s: Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, the Moody Blues etc, but also a lot of newer bands who sometimes call themselves "alternative prog" or "alt-prog" because they are uncomfortable with the Progressive label. The true newer prog bands do not simply sound like rehashed versions of pink Floyd and Yes, they have put their own stamp on progressive. I am thinking of bands such as Porcupine Tree, No-man, Anathema, Nosound as well as better-known acts such as Radiohead.

Melody - real tunes - seem to be making a comeback now after a lean period from the 80s to about 2000, during which technical brilliance, studio wizardry and the desire to cash in on the rap culture seemed to take precedence over the desire to write a decent tune.

True - a very lean period! To me melody has always been king!

i'm kinda more an acoustic/adult pop stuff.. Colbie Callat, Jason Mraz, Jason Reeves, Sara Barellies kinda stuff. That being said i'm also a hardcore Mariah Carey fan.. sad i know but i dunno the women does something for me musically. I also tend to favour female vocals..

I forgot to mention my recent discovery of a band from Melbourne called Midnight Juggernauts. They began as an electronic "indie-dance band" (whatever that means) but their latest album, The Crystal Axis, has elements of progressive rock in it, while stil being mostly danceable. They also do a great live show. I think they are currently touring somewhere in Europe.
