Hello Everyone:

As this year is coming to a close, I compiled a list of my favorite CDs for 2011. I have to say that although I do have many additional favorites than those I've chosen, these happen to stay on my playlist on a continuous basis. I would love for you all to share your favorites with me as well. Let me thank you in advance for sharing them.

My top ten list:

1. Lady Gaga - Born This Way
2. Beyonce - 4
3. Jill Scott - The Light of the Sun
4. Eric Benet - Lost In Time
5. El DeBarge - Second Chance
6. Keyshia Cole - Calling All Hearts
7. Adele - 21
8. Kelly Price - Kelly
9. KEM - Intimacy: Album III
10. Ledisi - Pieces of Me

BONUS PICK: Chris Brown - F.A.M.E.

The only CD I picked up tin the past year that was actually released this year would be 311 - Universal Pulse. It was pretty good; I like it a bit though, IMO, Transistor will always be their best album.

EDIT: Just picked up Sublime with Rome - Yours Truly which I believe was released this past summer. I like it quite a bit. The general sound of the album kinda made me think of Slightly Stoopid.

Well, I guess Universal Pulse and Yours Truly are my favorites of this year since they're the only ones I picked up.

I'm actually compiling a set of blogs that expose my top 11 albums of 2011... I've only shared entries 11-5, though... the rest will come later.

Good choices, people.

Only a few new albums came out in 2011 that interested me:

Howard Shelley - Beethoven's Complete Works for Piano and Orchestra (he conducts the orchestra and plays the piano solo) on Chandos (24/96 flac download from their website, the CD boxed set isn't available on Amazon.com yet)

Howard Shelley is the greatest pianist of the modern/recording age. His Rachmaninov is unmatched for virtuosity and artistry, likewise his Chopin. Normally, I can't take much Beethoven, but in Shelley's hands it is marvelous. He hasn't recorded any Liszt, however. Such a shame he is virtually unknown, while many a lesser light gets all the publicity.

Nikolai Lugansky - Nikolai Lugansky Plays Liszt

If anyone will be the heir to Howard Shelley, it is Lugansky. Although on direct comparison, Howard Shelley is a greater artist, if not a greater technician at the keyboard.

Chris Isaak - Beyond the Sun

I love Chris Isaak--he is one of a tiny number of popular artists that I bother with. I hate most of the "music" being churned out these days.

LeAnn Rimes - Lady & Gentlemen

This is her best album in years, in my opinion. I am listening to it right now, as a matter of fact! Sixteen Tons is my favorite track.

Thanks to Amazon.uk, I was able to acquire a few European CD releases by Gary Graffman (Chopin sonatas and ballades) that hadn't been in print since the days of LP.

Well, I don't have 10 and it's kind of hard to put them in an order, but I think I'll go with this one:

  • Adele - 21
  • Florence + The Machine - Ceremonials
  • Jay-Z & Kanye West - Watch the Throne

I also rediscovered some LPs (released previous to 2011) I somehow neglected for a while, these are:
  • Gossip - Music for Men (2009)
  • Drake - Thank Me Later (2010)
  • Keyshia Cole - A Different Me (2008)
  • Medina - Welcome to Medina (2010)
