I need some help. I got a new monitor and over all I like it. I adjusted the color cause the default was off but it's still a little off and I don't know what to change to fix it.

The first image is my computer (iMac) the second is my new monitor. Notice the red splotchyness. What is that and what do I change to make the color better?

Btw in the first image you can see little bit of the red but that's only cause I took the picture with my phone. It's not there when you actually look at the monitor with your eye's but it's for sure there on my new monitor.

The only way to really calibrate a monitor is with a calibration device - you place these devices on your screen, then their accompanying app displays what should be different shades of red, green, blue, and black/white, and the device reads the actual colour being put out by the monitor. It takes the difference between theory and reality, and builds a custom ICS Profile for your exact monitor.

When you calibrate your screens you'll end up with accurate colour, and, a correct progressions between bright and dark shades. Basically, it will make your monitor look as good as it can.

Something else to bear in mind is that Apple use very high quality screens in their iMacs - unless you spent $500 or more, the chances are, you will never get the other monitor to look as good as your iMac screen, because it's just not as good. Finally, the iMac uses a glossy screen, if the other monitor is matt, you'll never get the blacks as black, or the colours as rich on the monitor - there is a reason Apple moved to glossy screens despite their obvious drawback - they reflect things!

If I've been using Spyder calibrators from DataColor for a decade now, and they have all worked well for me. The current model is the Spyder 5, and the cheapest 'Express' model is all you need: http://anon.projectarchive.net/?http://spyder.datacolor.com/portfolio-view/spyder5express/

Hope that helps,

B.
