Alright, this one is a little emotional for me; so again, I apologize beforehand.
I'm sitting here, listening to some music and my mind is just thinking... me and my friends joke around all the time how this is the time of year when people get out of "hibernation" and start popping up again. You see people you haven't seen in a while and you joke, talk and laugh...
... and then, you start to remember that some people have gone from this world and you'll never see them again.
I was on Facebook and someone posted a picture of a woman I like to call a "hood mother"; someone who didn't give birth to you, but took care of you growing up, was always around to give you advice and love. One of the biggest ones in my area was a woman affectionately called "Miss Elaine". She never had any children of her own because she couldn't... but in truth, she had loads of children, including myself. She took care of a lot of us growing up; shared our love and pain and was always around. A couple of years ago, she had her leg amputated because of diabetes... but that didn't stop her. She was always outside, still being the same great woman she always was.
She died earlier this year. She was in her early 40's. That death shook a lot of us to our core...
After seeing the picture of her smiling and hanging out with some other "hood mothers", it made me smile... and then cry. It also made me remember all of the other people we've lost in this area and just how much I missed them.
I just wanted to say this: call someone you love. A close friend, a family member, a friend who may not be a friend anymore... just call them and let them know how much you care for them; how much they mean to you... because tomorrow is never promised and you may never have that chance to do so again. Life is so short; too damn short...
I'm sorry if this one is too deep; I guess the feeling just took over me. I'm still sitting here teary-eyed...
To all my friends here on GH; whether we talk all of the time or not, whether we've argued or just don't communicate that much anymore... know that you are always in my heart and you are loved and respected by me.
Thanks for listening.
Love, hugs and strength,
Jonny
