I'm guessing you all know by now that Oron is being sued for $34.8 M by CF.

Apparently in order to make a compromise:

Oron will assist Liberty in identification and civil prosecution of any parties who have been using Oron to distribute Liberty’s copyrighted material, including but not be limited to, full disclosure of IP addresses, banking information, emails and any other information that may assist in Liberty in such prosecution.

I've never agreed with the policy of being paid for downloads, once these type of hosts became the norm it ruined the spirit of friendly sharing - one reason we had a lot of crap posted here over the last couple of years. "Less is more" is very true!

If you uploaded to make money on copyrighted material then you have to expect possible repercussions, although with so many I doubt all but the highest numbers will be chased to get a "showcase" prosecution.

The best & most reliable hosters were the free ones, but their usage dwindled once the payouts began!

Well, speaking as an adult webmaster also.... It's payback time. The concept of 'friendly sharing' is one thing, but these sites have enabled the wholesale rape of an industry. I know many many small, independent websites who have gone under. I myself stopped production of one particular website due to piracy.

The only sites that remain now are the big boys, (and even they have seen their revenue slashed). The days of the smaller one-man operated websites (the niche ones) have sadly gone.

Friendly sharing is one thing (and you can debate that even that has gone too far), but people have even set up their own websites to promote 'their' stolen content! Imagine that.... People getting paid for providing MY content? It's BIG business and it's NOT a sustainable business model.... because those getting fat off the proceeds are NOT contributing by making any NEW products!

Those making the money in the business now are putting nothing back into it.

Personally, I'd like to see Corbin Fisher sue the ar-e off them, bankrupt them, then pursue each and everyone who has used their services to make money from stolen content!

How ironic, (and it shows the type of people who are in this 'business' now), that this company (Oron) encourages everyone to use their services to make stolen content available.... Profits greatly from them doing so, THEN offers to 'throw them to the wolves' when prosecuted!?!? So funny....

There won't be anything left in Oron's coffers once Corbin Fisher has finished with them. They will be a bankrupt company with their assets wound-up.... Good luck with that. AND Corbin Fisher will already have the domain name (Oron.Com) AND records of those using their services anyway!

Well as far as I can see, they are opening themselves up for another lawsuit, this time from the legit uploaders for violating privacy terms. But who would stand up to Oron? :thinking:

Personally I think Oron should be sued for the full bill and then get fucked up on the other end by the users who they plan to take down :thumbs up:

We've all know for years that the people running Oron were dodgy at best. As I see it, sleep with dogs, get fleas!

There is also the fact that CF are VERY aggressive in the warnings they include in their videos. They say point-blank that if you pirate their stuff they will sue you. Does it get any clearer than that?

At the end of the day, it's when money gets involved that things get bad. It has been established in the court that an IP is not the same as a person, so the IPs mean bollox all, what DOES matter is the financial records. If people were not doing this for profit, they would not be handing over their financial details to Oron, and would probably be grand.

As BrazilBoysBlog so clearly explained, making money off other people's work is wrong and not sustainable.

I don't think that's really the fair question to ask.

"Hands up those who have never made a profit from sharing work they don't own" would be more appropriate, and you'd get a much bigger response than 0.1%.
