Check out this story by CBS New from May 3, 2019.
PornHub is saying that they want to buy it restore Tumblr to it's former glory before the adult content ban. Apparently 16% of it's user base left after the ban, and now it can't make revenue goals.
What kills me is that Tumblr enacted the ban after Apple took it out of the app store because "child pornography was found on the site". I'm still on Tumblr every day with a blog that doesn't have anything to do with porn [Wonderful Wondrous World] and I'm still constantly seeing photos of the type they say they reject.
You would think that if Tumblr put this adult content ban then they would just shut down any blog that had it, right? Well, no. Now an AI program tries to identify adult content and then hides that post from the blog. But there is still a shit ton of porn on the site, which technically should have none now.
Now if you want to view a blog from your dashboard that has flagged content, you get this warning "This Tumblr May Contain Sensitive Media". If you agree, you get to go in and see the blog, which generally has a shit ton of porn. So what the hell was the point of the whole ban?
I don't get it! My Blogger site (in my signature) has a warning that it is an adult oriented blog. Why couldn't Tumblr just enact something like that, or what they have now, to warn the people who have regular, non pornographic, blogs that they are about to view one. I'm sure one of the reasons for the ban was too many foodies seeing dick and ass. lol.
But the main issue of the ban still exists. It may have been cut down in volume, but trust me, it still exists. And it exists everywhere. Just look at the photo sections on GayBoysTube, XVideos, and XHamster. But PornHub seems to be the exception. If they can somehow cut down on the volume on Tumblr like they do on their own site, then I'm all for the buy. Hell, I'm already for it.
I have a solution, but not being a techno genius I don't know how you would do it. But here it is: Have the original Tumblr be for the non pornographic blog, then have another (like TumblrXXX) for the adult blogs. If your blog has ANY adult content then it has to be hosted on the XXX side. Then you would just need a way to reblog from the original Tumblr to the XXX, like my old blog had a 50/50 split of porn and non porn posts.
We will keep our ears out I guess to see what happens to Tumblr since Verizon does want to unload it. Hopefully, it gets a good buyer.
