I'm the biggest Potter dork I know, and love trivia (asking and answering) in general, so all of my RL friends have been taking my HP-related questions for a LONG time. So in the spirit of all the Potter hoopla, I thought I'd post a couple questions, and open the floor for anyone to pose their own questions.

1. Lots of Hogwarts students have lost family members to the Death Eaters- Hannah Abbott, Susan Bones, and of course Harry. So which Death Eater killed Ron Weasley's uncles?

2. In less than two weeks, it'll be Harry Potter's birthday, so how old will the character be on July 31, 2011?

3. What is the earliest hint that a member of the magical community lives in the vicinity of Number 4 Privet Drive?

I know the uncles were the prewits, Fabian & something, and I think it was Voldie himself who killed them, though I'm not sure.

2. In less than two weeks, it'll be Harry Potter's birthday, so how old will the character be on July 31, 2011?

I'm pretty sure Harry is my age, so he'll be 31

3. What is the earliest hint that a member of the magical community lives in the vicinity of Number 4 Privet Drive?

oooh - now this is a good one - if you're gonna be stereotypical about then I'd suggest the cat thing Mrs. fig clearly has, but I'm guessing you have a better answer.

1. Most people don't know Molly's siblings were Gideon and Fabian Prewett, so I'm impressed : ) It took 5 Death Eaters, according to Mad-Eye, to kill them, but Antonin Dolohov was convicted specifically for their killing.

2. Right-O!

3. While the cats are suggestive (assuming they're Kneazles), that's not it. But an animal is the hint.

Correct indeed. In the first chapter of the first book, the day following Voldemort's nocturnal assassination of the Potters, on the morning Vernon Dursley is headed off to work, there is a line something like "But none of the Dursleys noticed the owl flyng by the window". Presumably it's to/from Mrs. Figg.

That's some impressive attention to detail!

I'm sorry but if Hogwarts is nearby Britain, then why does it take all-day train ride from platform 9 3/4? And Hogwarts Express is suppose to be flying. Students take the ride during the day and arrive at Hogwarts at night. If you take a plane ride all-day long being air borne then you'll arrive on the other side of the world. is it not?

And owls, btw, base on the HP books, can travel very far.

Well - we know Hogwarts is in Scotland, and Kings Cross is in London, so even today on a modern express train it's about 6 hours to make it to the south of Scotland, so since the Hogwarts express is a 100 year old steam train, and Hogwarts is clearly in the highlands, 8 or 9 hours is not actually that insane.

There's a million holes you could poke in the books, but this one doesn't add up.

How about this instead - all children get the Hogwarts express from London, so what happens the kids who are FROM Scotland? They have to travel down to London to spend 9 hours traveling back where they came from? WTF?

I'm sorry again, Hogwarts Express is suppose to be magical train that's never gets old (it was describe very clearly in the books) and it is a fast FLYING vehicle. It doesn't get to be a rickety old train. It shouldn't take 9 hours to travel cross country. My feeble mine just can't make sense of this.

Is the Hogwarts Express the only mode of transport to HSWW?

Well - it travels to Hogsmead station, so I imagine the people of Hogsmead get to use it to get up and down to London too :)

The train is there because it's romantic, if you stick within JKR's made up world it also makes no sense. Why don't the students use the flu network? Why don't parents use side-along apparition to bring their kids to the front gates?

The train has zero importance in the plot, it's there because it was normal in the UK for kids heading off to a boarding school to leave on a train, so Harry should go on a train that's cooler than a normal one, voila, one Hogwarts express!
