Last night had a power cut :(

In the middle of me having a shower. I have an electric shower, so when power went out so did the water!

There I was all lathered up standing there in the dark when it went out.

Got out of shower and hunted for a torch while dripping went and soapy!

Managed to rinse my self down using a flannel which I kept dunking in the sink!

While all this was going on, my alarm box outside was screaming away. The back up battery in the main alarm box has failed, so with the sudden cut in power the outside alarm box thought it was a threat and went off. This went on for 40 mins before the internal rechargeable battery went flat.

The power went out at 11.40pm. Came on about half an hour later. I was in bed at this time. I heard the beep of the cordless phone talking back to the base station. So set alarm clock again. And by now I was not tired so got up. booted back PC and within 5 mins power went out again! So finally went to bed, but the alarm was still screeching away outside

I think it was about 2am when I finally went to bed.

next morning power had not come back on :(. I did not have breakfast at home this morning. Did not want to open my fridge to try and keep it as cold as possible.

So went to work.

Came back home, and saw fridge had no lights on. I thought nooooo still no power. Then turned on light. That worked. So when the power came back on sometime during the day the power surge tripped my power sockets fuse :(.

Had a look at the contents of my freezer...... it was all chucked :(. That pissed me off BIG time. I'm not sure the stare of the fridge. Tasting the milk tomorrow will be the test.

Bloody electric company. I wonder if I can claim the contents of my fridge from them!

Oh and just noticed one of my NAS drives is failing to boot up properly. So wonder if power surge has killed that :(

Will have a better look tomorrow once I have calmed down

Rough man, what was the cause of the outage?

Really sucks. I've had a few multiday outages in recent years.
The city grid around here used to be really stable. Less so now. A combination of aging infrastructure and increasing use.
Does my porn habit on a 55 inch screen have anything to do with it? Of course not!

That is sad news, esp all things in your freezer have been lost...

Before next time it happens, may I sugggest you buy a Siemens KG39? Even without power all frozen foods stay frozen at least 24 hours when you have a power cut again :)

The insulation on that freezer much be amazing if it keeps things frozen for 24 hours :)

Don't have many power outages here any more. When I moved here over 10 years ago I used to get at least one power outage every month. They built a new housing estate near by I think they connected to the same substation, which I guess could not cope. As soon as they changed it there were no more power outages

Well i think the contents of the fridge were OK. I tried my milk this morning and it was fine. That is usually one of the first things to go bad I think. We will see over time if I get any tummy upset moments!!!!!

And last night had a proper shower again. Arrrrr lovely :). But it was always on my mind. Shower quickly and get off all the soap... just in case the power goes out again. Then I stood under it for a few mins, and it power went out it did not matter as I was all clean :)

It was really annoying when the power came back on it tripped the sockets fuse, as if that did not happen when the power came back on Im sure my fridge/freezer contents would have been fine. Oh well.

I dont really suffer from power surges where I live. I know a place nearby suffer really badly, to the point it kills hard drives... Not good :(

Oh my NAS drive... I was able to nurse it back to health. Just reset it all!

So there is one advantage to my shitty old-fashioned non-electric shower!

There must have been something in the air recently - I came in to work on Friday to find power had gone out over night, and a bunch of our phone infrastructure emitted it's magic smoke and died.

I think it's a testament to just how good our electricity supply is that we take it so completely for granted that a major outage is a massive surprise!

Most modern (and my old one) do these days? That is if you keep the freezerdoor closed!

Siemens is produced in Germany, and even if Philips is from my country (the Netherlands) we swear by German made electric refridgerators :)

I use a Bosch myself, I bought it about 30 years ago, believe it or not the only thing ever broke down in my fridge was the lightbulb... (that after some 25 years lols).

Mine is a nice big Bosch one. Only about 3 years old ish.

All my white goods in Kitchen are Bosch. Washing Machine and Dishwasher :). They seem to be the most reliable. Well except for the Dishwasher which has a recall notice on it, but Bosch refuse to come out at a time that suites me, so now I only use it when Im in the house
