Pre-oder a dvd why?

Hello World , I was thinking about pre ordering a dvd last week then i thought whats the point I could just go and buy it at the store the day it comes out , b/c if i oder it online i`m going to get it after it comes out any way( well really i just add it to my netflicks list)

What you guys think ? You ever pre-oder any thing online before.

I get the instore pre-oder to make sure that u can get some thing on the same day it comes out.

I've never done it... if I'm that keen to get something I'll get it from the shop on the release date.

Even in large cities the various stores and indeed chains of stores promote pre-ordering. It's a sale technique.

On occasion I have pre-ordered the odd item, even though I am say 90% sure I will get it from store on the release day anyway. So this applies to pre-ordering 'in store'. Ordering via the net is a different kettle of fish -one the one hand there can be postal delays, but on the other sometimes a title can be received *before* the release date. In the case of games the advantage (for some folks, I wouldn't really be all that pushed) is that if you get the game a few days before most everyone else then you can play it through and then post your own review on a forum; folks who are lucky enough to get a title in advance always get a lot of attention and notice.
Okay, from a seller's point of view it's all just good marketing, a way to create more and more anticipation for a product and to generate discussion online before the 'big day', but for customers who get caught up in the hype... it's just harmless fun I suppose. Unless you get people queuing up for hours outside a store, fainting, or attacking one another in-store trying to get that last copy! )

Online distributors usually ship the product timed so that it arrives on the release date... sometimes you can end up with delivery of your item before the release date if things go well in shipping.

I want to echo Putin and Firekev - I awalys pre-order online something that looks like it will be popular (books, games, DVD's, CD's, even the latest cell phone). My experience has been that they always arrive on the day of release - if not before. Anyway, I have better things to do with my time than stand around a store hunting down a popular item that may or may not be in stock (or sold out).

Which leads me to the question, who are these zombies that line up in the freezing pre-dawn hours at Apple stores for the latest shiny bauble? Hasn't anyone told them that they can order online from the comfort of their living room, and have it personally delivered to their house on the day of release?
