Prison Populations

I found this interesting map a bit ago and it really got me thinking. First off, I like watching a lot of true crime television (I have I.D. Investigation on right now) and it's all about sending people to prison that have done pretty horrible things. For things like murder, assault, and things like that, yea I agree that these people need to go to prison for a long period of time. However with the stories that you hear about assaults that happen in prison, especially youth facilities, there needs to be some sort of re-do with how we deal with the prison population. I also think that there needs to be a re-do about what types of crimes that deserve prison. I'm one of those that think that if you are caught with drugs for your own personal use, prison is probably a waste of time. Now if you are dealing, that is a different story. It's a hard subject, but one that I think is important. We can't put everyone in prison, and not everyone deserves a prison term. This map was just a little shocking to see.

There are 10 million people behind bars on this planet. 2,5 Mio. are in US prisons. So 25% of all people behind bars on this planet are in US prisons.

That's what happens when prisons are privatized and it becomes a business. What's the number one rule of a successful business? Repeat customers. People laugh about how "soft and plush" Norwegian prisons are but look at the stats. Norway has a 15% repeat offender rate, the U.S. is around 43%, nearly three time that of Norway.
In America there is no effort to rehabilitate prisoners, it's bad for business...

Under Obama, the US Federal Government stopped utilizing most private prisons and placed a significant emphasis on preparing inmates for re-entry into civilization by offering them job skills and education. However Trump has ordered the private prisons be utilized again and toughening up again on all offenses, regardless of the severity of the offense.

Let me chirp in before this thread gets shut down for justifiably obvious reasons.

It could be or it might not be the reason for but the current Attorney General is heavy invested in private prisons. Just saying...

Private prisons do not release 60%+ of their prisoners at the end of their sentence.
"Oh you have 3 months of infractions accrued"
Wow no one saw that comming? Ha anyone paying attention knew they were going to find a way to generate more income.

I shall show-off as a believer when I hear just one of these callous people who profit from other people’s misery is struck dead. That includes investors in the arms and weapons, private prison, drug, etc. industry not to mention any wretched soul who does not care if people lose their health care coverage just so they can have their tax cuts.
